Shame they never got to make an album Johnny. Saw them to some fucking great gigs with like likes of The Tamborines, The Lea Shores & The Asteroid 4. Was bang into the whole psychedelic scene around 07/08, was some great bands playing on a regular basis together in TCOTU. There still are some cool nights putting that sorta stuff on, should really look into it. Only thing with those type of bands they always have that great live sound and then record it and often it sounds fucking boring, that's if they ever get around to recording an LP.

That's it Karl, but there are little nuggets of greatness to be found.
The scene seemed really vibrant 4 or 5 years ago and then just died a death. Even the stuff coming out of West Coast of America ain't the same. Bands like The Stevenson Ranch Davidians and The First Communion After Party have disappeared off the face of the planet and The Black Angels are pretty shit now too. Then you've got The Morning After Girls and The Black Ryder. These bands all seem to release one record and disappear.
You just have to look at the Austin Psych Fest and a lot of the bands that play it are peddling this heavy drone sound which i like in small doses but the melody just ain't there.
It's sad to see because there used to be so much good stuff around and either i can't find it or it just ain't being made anymore.

So glad you said Black Angels are shit. That last record was just so average sounding. Could never understand all the praise it got around here. They were mysterious on their first album, such huge tunes. Ranch Davidians seem to do one gig in LA every about 4 months, can't see anything ever coming from them. You are totally right about the drone stuff, in principle I dig it, kind of like shoegaze too to an extent. I dig the idea of it & like it in small doses but it has to have the hooks & melody's there for me to really be interested. Forgot to mention Morning After Girls, saw them about 8 times in that year they spent living in TCOTU. I wanted to fuck the keyboardist Amy so fucking bad, used to stalk her on myspace Was a glorious couple of years, basically was soon after I got into the BJM that I discovered all these cool bands. Loved the gigs was always 5/6 quid, tiny venue, same people you'd bump into from gig to gig then the bands would all go which each other. Good vibes. Weirdly last week or so I've been on youtube watching a lot of BRMC, J&MC and raveonettes songs and interviews so I've had a craving for some of this sort of sound again. I think we should both have a look about for some new acts and report back. Koolaid Electric Company finally released an album, I had no idea they were still going until Sevenleaf told me about some cool band he knows and it happened to be them. Seems they released the album but it's unavailable on CD which is typical. You can stream it on soundcloud though. Did I ever send you the tamborines album? was pretty good, unoriginal but they definitely have got the tunes. From this year all I can think of that I've loved is the Ringo Deathstarr's 'Colour Trip' which sounds exactly like J&MC covering Loveless but I really dig it & of course the Horros album. Bass drum of death sounded promising but I don't think they've got the tunes. The War On Drugs I heard really good things about but I thought it sounded dull. Since those type of bands dried up a bit for me I've got more and more into garage rock, there are plenty of those type of bands about now. I suppose every style of music & scene has it's moment and goes in cycles. Just a shame those crop of bands from 07 didn't release anything that will be remembered too fondly in years to come.

Yeah was really looking forward to their debut cos I had 3 or 4 tunes like this and the Merry Go Round and The Last Time demos that were all the shit, then the lp leaked and it was complete shite. I felt so sure it would be good as well

I've supposed to see her 2/3 times but I or her has canceled each time. I personally thought her album was really lifeless & almost middle of the road. I heard she's got a new one from this year, hopefully it's a bit more exciting. I also assumed she would be cool due to the bands she's worked with & whatnot but the live footage I've seen is very similar, stripped back kind of affair. I wouldn't expect any loud psych tunes from what I've heard anyway. I also have not been to a gig in fucking ages & to make matters worse Black Lips have canceled their TCOTU show for no apparent reason so I've a even longer gap now. Though Dustins is under 3 weeks away, gig of the century, I'm sure if you book the train now it will be very cheap
