decided to resurrect my blog and will post a release a day in there with short review and some downloads. fuck this "ooh i'm gonna make a top 10 records list" nonsense. music is everything. I'll copy/paste the reviews (they're longer in finnish, i can do longer in english if people want them) but if you want the mp3s you gotta go to my blog. i don't think proboards would appreicate direct links to mp3s that much. First up: Chemical Brothers returned with a decent album this year. Long gone is the “Hey, let’s get the indierockers to appear on our shitty singles”-attitude. They replaced it wtih a return to their roots or at least attempted that. While the album was decent what really struck me as a great release was the Swoon Remixes-single. Boys Noize turn the original into a proper banger, but the A-side really seals the deal. The Norwegian discogods Lindström & Prins Thomas turn the original into a 10 minute band interpretation that is of epic proportions. Sublime stuff. thisismusic.info/?p=80

Blondes - Touched Blondes is 2 guys from Brooklyn who make hypnotic, spiraling electronic songs. Touched is their debut release and it’s quite a treat for ears. The two highlights are the first two songs You Mean So Much to Me & Moondance. Both rely on repetition as their basis but grow to big sounding behemoths. The rest 4 songs aren’t quite as epic but still continue on the hypnotic vein. It’s weird, despite not having too many catchy melodies I’ve been humming these songs to myself quite often. I want to see these guys live! thisismusic.info/?p=85

LCD Soundsystem - TCOTU Sessions LCD Soundsystem is the best band in the world. They’re also the world’s best liveband. TCOTU Sessions is a perfect document of their livesound without the usual caveats of live albums. No annoying chants, no shitty sounds, no crowd cheering, just the band on top of their game belting out larger than life tunes. The album highlight for me is Get Innocuous! where the growling bass finally breaks free from the restraints of the album version and just annihilates. Other highlight is Daft Punk is Playing at My House with it’s electropunk sounds. Also if you haven’t checked out the great quality live video from their Coachella gig I posted about earlier this year I suggest you check it out. thisismusic.info/?p=104

Jaakko Eino Kalevi - Modern Life Jaakko Eino Kalevi is a Finnish guy who makes electronic pop music. Yeah, that sounds megaboring when I put it like that, but there’s something twisted and wrong in his version of electronic pop. But that’s not quite correct either, because at the same time the songs ooze weird sexual energy. These aren’t songs for just dancing, they’re for praying your next victim at 2am while everything moves in slow motion. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t so bad at describing music. Oh well. Flexible heart is THE Finnish popsong of the year. This record rocks guys! thisismusic.info/?p=112bonus: you can see nipples in the linked music video!

Kevin Burgess - Vaudeville Hopscotch It’s nice to see that my vision of the future of the music is slowly coming alive. I dream of future where musicians records songs just cos they feel like it and where they don’t need an army of producers and marketers behind them to actually sound good. Kevin Burgess succeeds in this perfectly with his latest album. It’s a perfect combination of loose indie of Pavement and American noisy guitar-rock a la Sonic Youth. The wonderful lofi-production is the icing on the indiecake. The future does indeed look (and sound) good. thisismusic.info/?p=118there's a lenghty interview of our own krburg at the blog, check it out if you're interested

a postpunk themed update today: Weekend - Sports & Women - Public Strain Postpunk was alive and well in 2010 with brilliant albums from Weekend and Women. Weekend sound like a triumphant rockband that has somehow sent their recordings to a wrong mastering plant where the whole thing has been distorted and twisted and made better because of this. Women sound like a group that is lost inside a dense fog and keep searching their way through it, occasionally catching a glimpse of light in the horizon. When they finally get out of there with the closing track Eyesore the payoff is one of the best I’ve heard in ages. thisismusic.info/?p=127edit: added facebook-likes on the blog too. i feel like such a computerguru right now
