I'm on about albums that were either over-hyped or albums where you heard a couple of singles that got you all tingly to be followed by an album of dissapointment that makes you press >> 9 times.
For me, some recent ones would be:
The White Lies
Couple of singles that I really like, looked at some reviews that said it was like a modern day Joy Division, got all excited and then bored rapidly.
The Coral - Butterfly House
I can give each song a good 30 seconds before skipping most of them. If it was a brand new band i'd probably give it more time but when you could be listening to other Coral albums I don't see the point in wasting too much time on this one.
The Courteeners - Falcon (or something like that).
I'd only ever heard You Overdid it Doll and Scratch Your Name Upon My Lips (which is a tune), someone got it for me for proper crimbo and its really weak.
LCD Soundsystem - This is Happening
There is something missing on this album, I can't work out what it is but I suspect its some big tunes.
Older records that I feel this about include:
Kings of Leon - Because of the Times Ryan Adams - East Tiger Ryan Adams - Cardinology Kanye West - 808's and heartbreaks The Music - Welcome to the North Oasis - Heathen Chemistry Sigor Ros - Med Sud... Ian Brown - The world is Yours
Sometimes I get hooked by a song or two and then end up loving the entire album, I love it when this happens, but a lot of them time I end up wanting to delete 90% of the songs.

Welcome to the North was definitely a huge disappointment. Pretty much culled my interest in The Music for a long time.

RPA & the united nations of sound. I don't know why I was surprised, but after hearing 'are you ready', which was immense, the album itself was a steaming pile of poo. (Like every ashcroft solo album since human conditions.)

yeah Richard Ashcroft's solo stuff is to cry for. Also, Take Them On, On Your Own, it's not that bad but compared to the debut...well it's disappointing.

Actually, I should rephrase that. Every solo album going back to *and including* human conditions. Alone with everybody was the only one I liked.

I remember being really disappointed by Room On Fire when I first heard it. Fuck knows why, I love it now. Heathen Chemistry is one of the more obvious choices from recent memory but when it came out I remember thinking it was amazing, even She Is Love

Biggest disappointment of my lifetime is....... Stereophonics - Jeep I almost wept in pain when I first heard it. I was so fucking excited as well. What a terrible day In recent years stuff I was excited to hear that was either useless or for the most part forgettable. The Verve - Forth Primal Scream - Beautiful Future The Black Angels - Directions to See a Ghost Black Lips - 200 Million Thousand The Lea Shores - The Lea Shores Albert Hammond, Jr. - ¿Cómo te llama? The Brian Jonestown Massacre - My Bloody Underground The Charlatans - Up At The Lake The Futureheads - News and Tributes Morrissey - Ringleader of the Tormentor The Bees - Every Step's a Yes Exit Calm - Exit Calm John Squire's debut (so dull I've forgot what it was called) & for the most part anything that ends with '& The Cardinals" I'd be telling a lie if I included heathen chemistry, I was all over it when it came out though even at the time I said she is love is shit

I don't know how you could be that disappointed with Rock N Roll. Everybody knew the situation before it came out that he had written & recorded the most of it in the space of a few days as the record company had refused Love Is Hell. For that reason when I bought it I wasn't expecting much but either way IMO it's a pretty decent record with a few of Ryan's best songs on.

I don't really know the story behind the recording of that album tbh, I just remember listening and thinking 'oh dear *skip skip skip* *puts Hearbreaker on* *sigh*.
Which songs are those btw? Besides So Alive obviously

Anybody wanna take me home & So Alive I'd have up there with his best then stuff like Burning Photographs & Wish You Are Here are top notch too plus then I have a soft spot for some of the more throwaway tracks like Luminol & Shallow.
It's a good record for me, nothing great but considering he only threw it together so the label would release Love Is Hell I think it'll be looked back on in 20 years time much more fondly than it is now.

I learn t the exact same lesson as you but with Editors. Next time you fancy hearing some Joy Division just stick Joy Division on.

That's true, maybe I should give it a spin again, haven't put it on since 2004.

Yeah personlly I prefer the bubblegum-Smiths version of Anybody Wanna Take Me Home and love tune like Wish You Were Here, So Alive, Note To Self: Don't Die and I've always had a big soft spot for Do Miss America as well, plus there were some great B-Sides like Hypnotixed, Funeral Marching and Closer When She Comes. In fact that's 8 songs, add a couple more and you've got a megafun 10 track album. I'm gonna go through his back catalogue one and edit the whole lot properly one day. As for dissapointments... usually in the past I've just kidded myself it was decent if there's been an album I was looking forward to. I couldn't even bring myself to admit that Heathen Chemistry was a bit gash untill DBTT came out, and ditto with that until Dig Out Your Soul came out, I've gone full circle and actually don't mind HC now. The Streets 3rd album was one of the worst thngs I've ever heard though, and his debut is my favourite ever record Oh and I find Best Coast's album absolutely unlistenable, despite LOVING the early singles. I think it was krburg in the 2010 thread who said that the repetiton was like the Ramones, but with the Ramones it's like burning through a packet of Jaffa cakes really quickly, but Crazy For You feels like 12 massive bows of porridge. Maybe she should do some sexy photoshoots or something, might make it a bit better.
