I know Karl and JP have both been to see Billy recently, he's playing the Belfast Nashville Folk Festival in February and i'm thinking of going. He's been someone i've heard bits and pieces of and liked everything i've heard i've but never investigated his work in any great depth.
So where should i start?

his debut mini album "lifes a riot with spy vs spy" is vital and a great starting point with several now classics.
as for the full length albums id say talking with the taxman about poetry just edges it as my favourite.
deffo go to the gig though, i was in two minds about it and mahoney convinced me, was really glad i went.

Definitely go Johnny, even if you aren't clued up on his music when you go you'll still have a good time.
Best record to get is a comp called 'back to basics' which contains lifes a riot with spy vs spy, brewing up & between the wars. This collection contains most his well known work & the majority of his set will be made up of songs from back to basics.
