I have to agree with alot of people on here, the Robert Johnson recordings are good in small chunks, but a bit too samey to listen two two full volumes of songs. But the importance I can clearly hear, I thought of Captain Beefheart alot while listening to this. But I have a feeling this music fits better when you can relax and take your time. Unfortunately I have been very busy the last couple of weeks.

Why is everybody talking about the so called importance of the record? You do criticize an album on whether you like it or not don't you?
There are albums that have lots of 'importance' that I hate and albums with no 'importance' at all that I love. It's not that if an album is 'historically important' you have to excuse yourself for not liking it

Well, usually I'd agree with you on that, if someone was talking about Nevermind, Grace, Nevermind The Bollocks or whatever I'd feel the same but this is Robert Johnson, these recordings DO deserve respect & are a piece of history.
To be honest most people seemed to at least like the songs, just felt far too repetitive & long which is why I always listen to the King Of The Delta Blues compilation when I fancy hearing some of his work, the complete recordings is just too much to take in on one sitting therefor I think a bit of a odd choice to start off the album club (least to mention the fact it isn't even a fucking album)

Don't get me wrong, I love the record but if I didn't I really couldn't care about its importance. Ofcourse the man deserves respect but it's the quality of it that makes it 'historically important'. Whether you hear that quality/like it is up to the listener.
I also agree that it's kind of a weird choice for the album club indeed

Most people who would want to be involved seemed to have signed up now so I've added myself, JP & Ben to the open spaces on the list, assume you gents are ok with those dates, did them in the order we went in first time round.

I shall enjoy downloading and commenting here and there but wont bother committing myself, because I'd only forget or be lazy, which would seriously piss me off if someone else done it.

i heard the Alex Bleeker & The Freaks a few times and it never got under my skin. maybe it has to do with me not being much of a jam kind of guy. i like it when people sing and stuff, there was too much jamming in this album for me, even though i have to say that i loved the summer epilogue tune. the whole comparison with neil young seemed pretty accurate.

Alex Bleeker and the Freaks
It's all done very well but to me it sounds quite shallow. I don't know, it kinda lacks something to be good, but it's still decent. Sounds a bit empty and like it's all been done 100 times before, plus the typical hipster voice. 6/10

This sounds pretty negative but it wasn't bad at all, 6/10 ain't a bad score tbh but it's always easier to name the negatives than to name the positives
