It wasn't a dig at you bruv though when I posted it I thought 'I bet jp thinks im on about him' . I don't think I've ever heard you give the I SUPPORT THE ARTIST shit. It's just most people I know who have a record collection will of bought the majority (or a huge chunk) of their collection second hand which to me in a strange way is just the same as stealing an mp3 off the net.

I think there's a big difference between bands getting a bit of online hype (Sand Band or whatever they're called) and a band coming through and smashing it or even these days doing moderately well. It's barely happened for the last few years because record companies don't invest in bands anymore cause no one buys albums anymore.
I don't pay for music so I cannot complain but illegal downloads do effect a bands chance of building momentum and doing something.
When was the last time a new band played Brixton and it was a big deal?

When was the last time a new band played Brixton and it was a big deal? What do you mean by it being a big deal though? If you go by those rules when the Music did Brixton in 2003 I was shocked they could pull it off & sell it out. Nowadays shitloads of bands play Brixton Academy just a month or so after their debut album has been out. I just see, OCS doing moseley shoals on a saturday night at brixton. I could well get tempted by this

i'd pay 5 dollars or 99 cents... to the artist if 90 cents of the 99 cent itune actually goes directly the band. Thats what should and is happening, with bands having their own labels, straight from their website.
I also see getting the music for free and then paying extra for private gigs, or special bonus dvd for 10$.
Streaming music definitely the future. Bands definitely have to be more creative in getting different streams of income nowadays...
but anyways back to the orginal topic.. free downloads is the best way to promote new music.. thats what its all about! More music!!

As for supporting artists, any acts that make albums that I think are really good I'll go see when they tour so they can have their money that way. This Actually I'm pretty sure Kings of Leon started out on the net, as do most 'indie'bands of the last 10 years; but look at them now, they have no problem sellingout massive stadiums, it's not really about the internet or the 'illegal' download of music, it's about the artists' integrity.

I could well get tempted by this I don't think they do anymore tbh and certaintly not to the point where it has any kind of vibe around it. There's been no buzz band (good or bad) for ages with any momentum behind them. No new bands are doing anything and that's as much about record companies not funding them as it is about a supposed lack of new decent music. www.seetickets.com/Venue/O2-Academy-Brixton/List/1/30Two Door Cinema (no idea who they are) and that's it. This is the exact point when bands should be beginning generating a buzz before hitting the festivals
