So what's new with them? Always loved the Great Escape album, and for some ridiculous reason only recently discovered that No Love Lost is in fact just as magnificent, if not better tbh. They're obviously TCOTU-centric, sure have played the states but will probs never come to Minneapolis, i'm fine with that. Is there a new album going? I heard they lost a fella? which one? I'm a novice here but a few of their tunes have inspired me to pick up the acoustic again (yeah i hear the jeers). Considering the last time i did it was upsidedown it's a genuine achievement. But what tunes really.... that's the point. What a group.

No Love Lost > The Great Escape
They're playing an acoustic set here somewhere in May. Think they're playing at least 10 times a year over here but might go and see them this time. Good band ;D

They are working on a new album now in Weller's studio. They update about it on their twitter every few days, seems its coming along nicely though I reckon it will be end of summer before it's out.
The bass player & drummer both quit the band. It shouldn't be a huge deal, Joel & Luke are the two that write all the tunes, I'd imagine they won't be too hard to replace.

The Great Escape is one of the best albums of the last decade, that's for sure.

No Love Lost dicks all over it tbh Barnabus. To me it sounds like another band doing what everyone was doing back then. Enjoyable but that's it. The Great Escape on the other hand sounds big, powerful and lovely. Tune after tune. MAJESTIC.

As much as I like No Love Lost, I thought The Great Escape was another step up and one of the best of 2009. I can't wait for the new one and hope it's just as good.

I don't really like the sound of TGE and some tunes are a bit lacking. It's a good album with some massive tunes (General, Toerag, Great Escape) but No Love Lost is perfect. For what they were trying to achieve (Gritty indie take on The Jam with modern social themes) it's perfect. Not a bad tune on there.
It will always be essential listening to me.

OUT IN THE PAST best song theyve ever written.
the great escape apparently was recorded at leeders farm studio in norfolk that is owned by one of THE DARKNESS.

OUT IN THE PAST best song theyve ever written. . it's the bollocks for one simple reason. The way they sing 'running around', emotional cockney heroes.

by the way, that band called NEW EDUCATION who support the rifles a while back who had the biggest tune ive ever heard called TODAY, have changed their name and got a new drummer and are now called ALL THE YOUNG.
their debut single is called THE FIRST TIME and is just as amazing as the previous band. apparently they are supporting BROTHER on tour in april. huge stuff.

Singer looked like such a cunt. What a tune, if I was sixteen again this would be the best band on earth. Tune tbf. btw I was listening to that vaccines album again and it struck me that the singer sounds a bit like danny mac.

Fucking love the Rifles
I always associate them with my old house mate who was into all the really fucking terrible generic indie rock stuff (Milburn, Pigeon Detectives & Little Man Tate come to mind).

Is this the band that sounds identical to the Dirty Pretty Things or Pretty Things?
