Woody Allen has marked Rome as the next stop on his European filmmaking odyssey, and he's recruited Alec Baldwin as his co-pilot.
Baldwin will take a leading role in Allen's next film, starring alongside Penelope Cruz, who announced last week that she's in the film.
Baldwin and Allen last worked together on the 1990 film 'Alice'. Cruz and Allen recently made 'Vicki Cristina Barcelona', which earned Cruz an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
Deadline first broke the news that Allen is also zeroing in on 'The Social Network' star Jesse Eisenberg, who may be the most neurotic-seeming onscreen presence since Allen in his glory days, for another leading role.
Allen, long known for his love affair with his hometown of New York, has branched out in recent years. His most recent film, 'You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger', was made in TCOTU, while his upcoming 'Midnight in Paris', was shot in the French capital.
"Each time it's been like writing a love letter to these places and projecting my feelings for them on the screen," Allen told Variety in March. "I hope to be able to do the same with Rome." ~ via moviefone

I haven't seen any of his films since Vicky, Christina, Barcelona which admittedly was great, should get round to it really, but there is so much older stuff to work through too, I picked uo Match Point the other day for £1, not read many good reviews of it though

I haven't seen any of his films since Vicky, Christina, Barcelona which admittedly was great, should get round to it really, but there is so much older stuff to work through too, I picked uo Match Point the other day for £1, not read many good reviews of it though I've only seen a few of his older ones. My favorites are Annie Hall and Mighty Aphrodite. Had bought these 3 box sets awhile back, still need to plug though them, maybe over the summer. www.amazon.com/Woody-Allen-Collection-Sets-1-3/dp/B001539HQY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1302711734&sr=8-3I adored Vicky, Christina, Barcelona and his new one 'You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger' was good. Didn't much care for 'Match Point' though it wasn't awful.
