Arcticles were they revisit underrated albums. They've done so far:
Oasis, 'Don't Believe The Truth' The Stone Roses, 'Second Coming' The Strokes, 'First Impressions Of Earth' Blur, 'Leisure' The Vines, 'Highly Evolved'
Nothing surprising or specially special about the reviews per se, but I totally agree with the choices of those albums, minus Second Coming which I have never given a chance tbh. The other four vary from nice to classic in my eyes, but they all had their good doses of rotation and provided some truly great moments.

Second comings a great album and pisses all over the rest from a great height
Breaking into heaven 8 Driving south 8 Ten story love song 10 Day break 7 Good times 8 Tightrope 8 Straight to the man 5 Your star will shine 6 Begging you 6 How do you sleep 6 Love spreads 10
Dbtt is ok, bit lumpen in terms of production but the first two singles were killer tho

Only because it was preceded by one of the best debuts ever. It's a steamy pile of shit in comparison.

Okish list. But I have to agree with stew on this one. Like I told Jorn as well, Second Coming has too much Squire solo wankery on it....

Thing is NME have no need to revisit these records as soon as almost all of them they gave glowing reviews when they were released.
If ever a record needed remastering it's Leisure.

Take away the wankish 25-minute opening on breaking into heaven and that's a top 10 roses tune. (Top 5 for me, but I can see why others might disagree.)

Did you found anything wrong with that record when you last listened to it back in 2003?

I like the intro for Breaking Into heaven. It's over the top & self indulgent, the listener immediately knows what they are getting into when they stick the CD in.

Agreed. Breaking into Heaven is one of the best things the Roses ever did. I like the album version, but it sounds 10x more powerful live. Squire solos like a bastard.
Second Coming is a fantastic LP, doesn't get anything like the respect it deserves. You've got massive groove-powered tunes like DRIVING SOUTH and BEGGING YOU, and on the flip-side some beautiful, acoustic melodies like Tightrope.

I like the fact Breaking Into Heaven has such a ridiculous intro, but I always skip straight through it. Great tune though.

There's a version of breaking into heaven on 'the very best of...' that is just the track. Just under 7 minutes...that's what I usually go for. Love it.
