I was curious to see what you guys would think of the MLS if they actually watched a match as an American would. I don't think many have really actually seen any of it, only just heard. There are no claims that it's great or better then anything, I was just curious to see what actual opinions are after seeing a brief snippet. I thought that this recently played match is a pretty good window into what it's become. We've got football-specific stadiums now (most clubs) and genuine supporters, it's not just a novelty anymore. What do you think of the crowd? the fans attitudes/actions/look/etc.... how the match is actually presented on television? the quality (or lack thereof) of play? the officiating, the whole package deal really. what do you think, i think it's pretty alright? Any opinions come out of watching this? comedy responses of "It's shit." welcome. lolz Timber Joey  |

Ive got tickets to a Red Bulls game soon, so Im looking forward to that. The arena is one train stop away from me and despite it being in a basically abandoned industrial area, most people say its a good place to see a game as its built very well.
The Red Bulls Supporters are pretty boisterous. They had a event at a Devils game earlier this year to get interest in the club and they took over the arena for a game and were very loud and made the atmosphere at a hockey game feel like a soccer match.

Red Bull Arena is awesome, went there last year, and yeah the supporters are great (behind the south goal) But yeah jesus it really is in the middle of nowhere isn't it? We were staying in Manhattan so taking the train wasn't difficult but we were in a hurry to get back to Manhattan after the match so we took a cab, it was $90 ffs  and probably no faster then the train in the end (traffic fucking everywhere, the bridge and all that) but we made it in the end.... where were we going? To an Athlete concert. ;D  |

lol you shoulda just gotten on the PATH to WTC, its right outside the arena and is 20 minutes from Harrison! 90 bucks for a goddamn cab, ffs.
Yea, that area of Harrison is a bit of a demilitarized zone with its proximity to downtown Newark. Newark is getting better since the Devils moved in though. The arena is bringing a lot of business.
But yea, I'm looking forward to the Red Bulls. A friend of mine has seasons, so I hope to get to more than one.

The crowd looks good to me, like the flags and the scarves. Looks like a nice stadium as well, better than ours lol, fucking UFO. Ok then that mong with his chainsaw came in. LOL Commentary is good, highlights are atrocious though. You can't get in halfway in an attack. Can't say much about the quality of the play as it's only some highlights but I would definitely go if I lived there. Ajax are playing Portland Timbers and D.C. United at the end of the season. HUGE Bit lack of chanting though. Could be cleared out. The drums are rather annoying but you see that in lots of European matches as well. They should be banned, worldwide. Also miss references to Hamas, the genocide, World War II bombings etc. Oh wait, that might be a good thing. Fireworks are bit gay, as fireworks should be just bangs, red/orange or no fireworks at all. Flaming torches > firework though  |

That Chicago goalkeeper is absolutely dire The highlights are too choppy n' all, it's a free flowing game not a series of 'plays' like yankoid sports. I'm always a fan of players stopping in their tracks and standing still for seconds on end out of pure arrogance though so the 3rd Portland goal were alreet by me and yeah, the atmosphere was great apart from Hacksaw Jim Duggan. You attending any of the Toon's US pre season tour bet welching prick? Playing a load of old rubbish by the looks of it, only player I recognise for any of them is Leandre Griffit who had a good fortnight for Southampton about a decade ago. Ryan 'Ryan' Taylor's gonna tear that continent a new one, I can just feel it. |

the standard was dire when I worked for the MLS back in 2002. Not sure what it's like now but at least it's got a proper league and stadia now (Fire played at Naperville which was 2 stands, rubbish). Seems to be growing which can only be a good thing.

You ever go to any Thunder matches bro? They actually disbanded, though there is a more-or-less phoenix replacement, different name but a lot of the same names. Problem is that they play in Blaine, and with traffic, it's almost a 45 minute-hour drive, I went about six times last season but just can't do them all, it's a haul. I made a huge thread about it on here though, let me pull it up real quick... |

I didn't know that, that's pretty cool though that explains why you were in Chicago (if i remember right?) Yeah i mean it's all a work in progress, it's a second-tier sport in a highly-sportive country where there is already a firm dominance by the top three (and four with hockey in the northern part of the country) but i think it's improving and expanding at a great pace, and will only continue it's growth in quality. It gets better and more popular every year, all you can ask for really.  |

I'm no staunch hawk on it all but I respect it, stand up and keep my mouth shut for a minute. It doesn't bother anyone (normal anyway) and it's not going to stop now. It's not like it actually indoctrinates anybody. |

The Portland Timbers stadium is great. Used to be a minor league baseball field. Can't wait to see a game there.

going to some Houston Dynamo matches this year,got a ticket to see the gold cup semifinals in the Reliant which is a massive stadium. It's only 3hrs by car but the traffic is just intense.
