Lead singer on Victoria and Yes Sir, No Sir is still Ray isn't it? Anybody knows why he went for that deeper, thicker voice on those songs? He even pulls out his classic thin voice for the bridge of Yes Sir, No Sir.
Is it cause those songs were written from the prospective of different characters like he did with the following opera-albums (Preservation etc)?

All vocals from the original (without the bonus tracks) are Ray Davies. The reason of why is voice is different I wouldn't know If you include the bonus tracks only Mindless Child of Motherhood, This Man He Weeps Tonight and Mr. Shoemaker's Daughter are with Dave Davies on leading vocals

Yeah I always assumed it was because he was 'acting' the roles sort of, In Yes Sir No Sir he uses a few different accents, he does it in 'She Bought A Hat Like Princess Marina' too

aye, well pointed out. Ray does some kind of different voice on Shangri-La's bridge aswell. Surely has to do with the "soundtrack to the films/opera" thinking behind most of the album, although it's a shame it is not explained in depth like on Preservation 1 & 2.
