Any fans?
Been getting into him bigtime lately, been a fan of songs of love & hate for a few years, always quite enjoyed it from time to time but gave his debut 'songs of leonard cohen' a proper go a week or so back & it blew me away, already one of my favourite records of all time. Since then Songs Of Love & Hate has sounded better than ever & I;m also loving songs from a room & New Skin for the Old Ceremony. I hear the quality of his work varies after '74 but those four records are all excellent.
I still stand by the time I see him at glastonbury was absolutely fucking awful, I've been on youtube to check out a few videos to see if I was totally wrong but thankfully I wasn't. What makes Coen's first four records so great is their simplicity, usually an acoustic guitar, his vocal & maybe a gentle bass or violin to ease the track along, when I saw him he barely played guitar, his voice had zero of the charm it had back then & most importantly he had a full band playing bloated version of his work which is probably what it feels like to see Bob Dylan now.
