Already becoming one of my all-time fav hip hop records. YES BRUV. superb record and he was a huge talent. check out this freestyle him and a young jay z did in 95, it's one of my faves: it's fun and interesting to see jay z spit, and he is good, but big L destroys him gonna listen to lifestylez all day now, cheers

Yay! I'll check that out. Funny enough I gave the Black album a good go at the end of last year & really disliked it. I just find him so incredibly charmless & devoid of any kind of wit.
Been also really enjoying The Pharcyde's Bizzare Ride II & The Jaz's To Your Soul, which funnily enough has a young Jay-Z featured on a track or two.

i do like the Black Album but Reasonable Doubt or Blueprint are by far his best, you checked them out? the latter, especially, is one of my favourite hip hop albums.
Jay Z is an odd one, his braggadocio game has always been decent and his voice has character, but he just releases reams of utter shite. especially in the last decade. some of his phoned in verses are an embarrassment.

I think Jay-Z has always been bang average. Will check out Big L's Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous.
Bizarre Ride is still one of the best hip hop albums ever.
Something that I heard too late for last year's list but have been loving since is Isaiah Rashad's latest record. Great stuff.

Jay Z is a quality rapper, his voice has oodles of character and Reasonable doubt and The Blueprint are great albums, though I can appreciate that for some pretentious indie boys the blueprint might be a little too mainstream sounding ;-)

the combo of jay z spilling his emotions and kanye providing many of the beats on blueprint just make it an all timer. and fuck, that eminem verse on renegade is one of the greatest ever.

Been listening to an album by Seez Mics a bit this week, really good stuff. There are a few videos on YouTube but they don't work.
The album is called With and is on Spotify.

the good people have released the hip hop album of 2019. real golden era vibes and rivals stuff like classic pharcyde and souls of mischief.
here's the lead single...

I’ve just discovered this self titled album from 2012 by Quakers.
It was a project by Geoff Barrow and two other producers that I don’t know, with 30 odd guest spots over 40 odd tracks. Which would be idiotic if it weren’t for the fact that loads of the tracks are under 2 mins, and not skits. The production is ace and they’ve unearthed some amazing samples.most of the verses are pretty great too. From what I can gather it’s mostly American MCs, with the odd British one here and there. There’s one from Bristol, and rap in a Bristol accent sounds fucking ridiculous. In a bad way.
There’s some filler, but surprisingly little considering everything else.
Well worth checking out.

Your Old Droog - 'Transportation'
First discovered Droog via Romesh Ranganathan's 'Hip Hop Saved My Life' podcast. His 2017 album 'Packs' is good, the single 'Bangladesh' is a banger but this new record is on another level, it's fucking incredible.

Jay Z is a fucking punk, sold out his community by selling them crack and now sells them out by playing ball with the NFL. Killer Mike should sit on him.

Anyone listening to 6 Music over the past couple of months won't have missed these. DJ Premier involved with both. And you can hear it straight away. Both bangers too.

I liked that Bishop Nehru tune but found the album disappointing. Some good tracks on there but too much rubbish for my liking.

Heard this this morning. It's a couple of years old but never heard before. It's DOPE. His flow reminds me of Denzil Porter.
