Obviously an artist who divides opinion, I love him, but can completely understand how people would find him hard to get into, the 80's production and stuff, it does take some getting used to. Anyway, there is a new documentary on BBC4 tonight for the UK folks, I'm hoping it's decent, BBC4 usually handle these things quite well and tastefully, hopefully there is a decent insight into the man, who can often be too guarded. hopefully it doesn't concentrate too much on the obvious Purple Rain stuff and actually looks into the his more challenging and innovative stuff. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00kx3c7

I don't like his music at all (which is all personal ofcourse) but there's something about him which is really great. Personality, I guess. He did this 'surprise gig' in the not too big venue in Amsterdam not too long ago, the venue announced it a few hours before he would play. Immediately a massive queue, tickets where like a 100 quid or something . Too bad this is on BBC4, only have BBC1 and 2 here.

Yeah, he's infamous for that kind of thing, whenever he plays a big gig somewhere, 9 times out of 10 he'll play a second gig later that night in a smaller club or venue, apparently, if you hang around outside the bigger venue, one or two of the roadies will filter out the venue and whoever gets there first will get in.
He's played tiny clubs in Soho before with 200 capacities.
I like the fact he is one of the biggest 'music stars' in the world, as in he can sell out arena's and stadiums at the drop of a hat, yet he is one of the most enigmatic musicians of all time, not a lot is known about him, he doesn't do a lot of interviews or press, back when he was at his biggest, he hardly did any interviews. It would be almost unfathomable in this day and age to become so 'big' and still remain a complete enigma.

You've nearly ruined your own thread bra, no need to be scared. Sign o' the times is an amazing epic album, and one of the top 10 albums of the 80's

he's one of the most under rated guitarists in music. People hear "Prince" and think "wee guy. rib removed. carmen electra" but his music has been top quality

This.It took me a while to get into his music (always hated when the doves cry) but I have always been amused by his oddities and mysteriousness. Half of it I find comical (especially after the chapelle show charile murphy bit) but his toenail clippings have more talent than most. Went on a Prince kick about a month back and talked a DJ to playing when you were mine and he followed that up with little red corvette. there was an article about him about what he was like in high school that i read somewhere. The band teacher used to leave the door unlocked after school for him and prince would be there (or in the gym playing basketball....no joke) real late. His dad was a dick and didnt let him play the piano when he was around either. Then dad left, but the piano stayed. The guy lived music. plus he kicked kim kardashian off stage for not dancing

I think the answer to your question Ax-man is that Kevin carefully chose to portray Prince with such a photo to show the soapbox that Prince is much more than the pop diva he is shown as by the media. Choosing a picture of Prince playing drums helps demonstrate Prince the musician rather than Prince 'the man who can suck his own cock'.
Really enjoyed the documentary last night, also watched Purple Rain after which despite being a bit rubbish was great entertainment. Downloading EVERYTHING EVER right now & have officially chosen Prince as my 'artist that Kev likes that I've never bothered with' for 2012 following the success of Eels in 2010 & Tom Waits in 2011.

Downloading EVERYTHING EVER right now & have officially chosen Prince as my 'artist that Kev likes that I've never bothered with' for 2012 following the success of Eels in 2010 & Tom Waits in 2011. Word of advice on downloading his stuff, Prince's albums fall into the category of really bad sounding 80's CD's, they have never been remastered or touched and the CD versions sound pretty weak. However much like those Dr Ebetts Beatles 'remasters', there is a guy called 'DJ Foefur' who has 'remastered' all of Prince' 80's output and they sound sooo much better, it was like rediscovering the man when I first heard them, the bass and drums sound huge and made more of a difference than any other remaster I've ever heard. However there is one small thing, for some reason on a few of the albums this bloke has extended the odd song, probably only about 5 or 6 in total, but its very pointless so say Housequake from 'Sign O The Times', the original is about 5 minutes long, his version is extended to 8 minutes and it adds nothing really, its weird, but i'm sure you can work out what is supposed to be what with a little research. So when searching for his 80's albums (Actually I think he has remastered most things up intil 1991's Diamonds and Pearls) search for 'DJ Foefur Sign o the times' or something. Enjoyed the documentary last night, didn't really teach me anything I didn't already know, but was nice to hear from some people from within his camp.

If the soapbox need "showing" then the soapbox is full of cock suckers. Choo know what im saying? Cant agree with this, as none of it changes the fact the he has 4 stone cold classic albums.
