I'm three tracks in and it's fucking appalling.
Fans of his radio friendly hits like Tonight The Streets Are Ours are in for a shock. He's gone down a road I can only describe as sub-later-day Oasis. Imagine a succession of poor versions of 'Turn Up The Sun', but with Noel singing.

I hope this isnt true. I've really loved his past three records, each one got slightly better than the last.

I've never really been a fan, but I had to double check that this was actually the same Richard Hawley. One of his talents was that rich baritone voice of his. Well he's buried it on this album under a lot of big-ish sounding guitars.

So does it sound more like that song he did a few months ago with the arctic monkeys? Wasn't sold on that one, and it kind of sounds the way you're describing.
I agree with Mahoney, except I didn't think truelove's gutter was quite as good as whichever one was before it.

I had bad hopes for this but the truth is it works, more or less. I prefer him in crooner suit, yeah, but he is an amazing guitarist and can pull an album like this, adding textures and interesting solos to songs that drone a little too much. So if all he wanted was to do a little space rock, good for him.
