very little music this year has moved me this year like last year, i've heard maybe 3-4 songs that have really knocked me out but beyond that i haven't heard much interesting - and i've been trying pretty hard has anyone else found the same, or am i just becoming an old cunt? god i hope it's not the latter, i loved last year musically

Nah I don't think so. Some big tunes kicking about. Have you checked out the LIARS album?

There's been a lot of shit from the big names (hopefully someone gets to weller before his head permanently disappears up his own ass), but I've heard a few things that I really enjoy this year, including the new stuff from the hives, jack white and richard hawley, off the top of my head.

i prefer this year to last.
for me last year was full of big names releasing lps that were nowhere near as good as their finest moments, whereas this year has already seen some great debuts and also albums that are up their with the artists finest work.

All the effort that goes into finding out about new artists and weeding everything out and then to decide on whether to give it 3.5 or 4* on RYM, it's just not worth it any more.

I'm with Baz, If I look at what had come out last by this time last year to what we have now there is no contest for me. Mind you, I absolutely loved last year so maybe I was always set for disappointment this year. But when I think we are pretty much 50% of the way through 2012 & theres only 7 records that I've liked more than a 7/10 kind of way it's definitely a let down
I've been a geek and checked my RYM to see what was out by this time last year. Obviously this is personal proferrence on my part but it just goes to show how uninspired I've been by alot of what I've heard this year.
2011
10/10 Josh T Pearson - Last of the Country Gentlemen
9/10 British Sea Power - Valhalla Dancehall Action Bronson - Dr. Lecter PJ Harvey - Let England Shake Black Lips - Arabia Mountain
8/10 The Horrors - Skying Charles Bradley - No Time for Dreaming Gruff Rhys - Hotel Shampoo Ringo Deathstarr - Colour Trip Beady Eye - Different Gear, Still Speeding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lykke Li - Wounded Rhymes Elbow - Build a Rocket Boys! J Mascis - Several Shades of Why The Strokes - Angles The Kills - Blood Pressures Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat - Everything's Getting Older Art Brut - Brilliant! Tragic! Arctic Monkeys - Suck It and See
2012
9/10 Spiritualized - Sweet Heart Sweet Light
8/10 Action Bronson & Party Supplies - Blue Chips The Cribs - In the Belly of the Brazen Bull Dr. John - Locked Down Hunx - Hairdresser Blues Natural Child - For the Love of the Game Paul Weller - Sonik Kicks
Lots of records with good tunes on which I've liked but overall they've not really been hitting the sweet spot. Hope the second half is better than the first.

Last year wasn't very good in my eyes Just 3 records stood really high for me, with lots between 6 and 7.5. This one is shaping the same way, but without winners.

Yeah this year has been below average thus far (for rock n roll anyway - there have been quite a few decent dance music 12"s released).
Most albums seem to come out in the latter half of the year so it should improve.
Wasn't blown away by last year either, there seemed to be loads of albums I liked but nothing I was really crazy about.

Last year was probably better tbf, but, this year isn't over yet. Album of the year for me so far is Hollow by Graveyard Train (I made a thread and everyfing) Such a dirty, satisfying listen.
