The Arctic Monkeys have made more great songs, however the Libertines have made more classic songs.

Damn, tough one, but I'll go with the Libertines simply cause they basically changed my life, the Arctic Monkeys are just a really good band.

Libertines, no doubt. The last Arctic was pretty good, I must say.

Never been a huge fan of Arctic Monkeys, some good tunes but lacking the longevity. The Libertines were and still are life changing for a lot of people growing up, the impact they had on society made them the first and last since Oasis. This obviously excludes people who do the hoovering while listening to Coldplay as background music.
So yeah, The Libertines.

Arctic Monkeys for me. The Libertines have a magic about them that the Monkeys could never come close to capturing, but The Libs only bottled that magic for 1 album and a single really. It all came apart before during and after the 2nd album, which is a total mess. I've played that first album and the singles + b-sides of that time so much I've maybe worn out the magic a bit... Still love them like.
With the Arctic Monkeys' debut, I remember thinking they were a tight punky outfit who had struck gold and got a bit lucky and if anything were riding on the coat tails of the indie phase of that time that was all about the Libs. 3 albums of pure brilliance later and they're still going strong.
Given I was 8 years old when Definitely Maybe came out, I'd say Arctic Monkeys are shaping up to be THE rock band of my life.

I listen to the AM a lot more these days than I do the Libertines. And only their last two albums. I much prefer their heavier stuff. I couldn't tell you the last time I bothered listening to the AM debut. The Libs have got half a dozen solid gold tunes, but I'm content to hear them three times a year in bars or clubs. I mean who the fuck listens to their second album all the way through? It's garbage.

Is that opinion about the second Libs album generalized? I think it is very good, if just not as good as the debut. I remember not listening to it for a long time then putting it and being marvelled.

I don't think it's garbage, it doesn't reach the heights or spectacle of the debut for sure, but in context and as a stand alone album, I think it's alright. There are some duds on it, and its too long, you could easily drop 3 or 4 songs from it to make it a bit stronger. But it's still a relatively decent album.
