Just over a month ago I was convinced he was simply happy to be a Masters champion banging a tennis player. It was as if he hardly gave a single fuck about golf.

"Rory McIlroy undecided over GB or Ireland Olympic spot
Rory McIlroy has insisted that he is yet to decide whether he will opt to represent Britain or Ireland at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Media reports on Monday suggested the Northern Irishman had hinted he would declare for Britain for the 2016 Games when golf returns to the Olympics. However, McIlroy said on Monday evening that he had not yet made up his mind. "I have absolutely not made a decision regarding my participation in the next Olympics," said the world number one. "On a personal level, playing in the Olympics would be a huge honour. "However, the Games in Rio are still four years away and I certainly won't be making any decisions with regards to participation any time soon." The Northern Irishman will have the option of representing either Great Britain or Ireland in Rio and he acknowledged that he is in "an extremely sensitive and difficult position". "I am a proud product of Irish golf and the Golfing Union of Ireland and am hugely honoured to have come from very rich Irish sporting roots, winning Irish Boys, Youths and Amateur titles and playing for Ireland at all levels. "I am also a proud Ulsterman who grew up in Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. That is my background and always will be. "I receive huge support from both Irish and British sports fans alike and it is greatly appreciated. "As an international sportsman, I am very lucky to be supported by people all over the world, many of who treat me as one of their own, no matter what their nationality, or indeed mine. This is the way sport should be." Golf will make a return to the Olympics at the Rio Games after a 112-year absence."

I'd prefer him to play for GB & Northern Ireland but like boxing and rugby the governing body of golf in Ireland is cross border so I wouldn't be suprised to see him choose Ireland.

The real issue is that golf at the olympics is absolutely fucking ridiculous.

At least his reasoning seems more sound than the Northern Irish footballers who jump ship

-16 McIlroy; -14 Stenson, Fowler, Mickelson
Posted at 01:26
Sweden's Henrik Stenson makes par at the last when he needed more but that's a round of 66 for 14 under. But the big story is happening behind him, where Rory McIlroy has bent in his birdie putt on 17 to open up a two-shot lead. Mickelson and Fowler need eagles up ahead, Rory needs something pretty ordinary for a play-off to ensue.

rory mcilroy - us pga champion 2014. from bbc live text. It was mum who Rory celebrated with first after his victory at the Open, this time it's his old man again. How good can this kid be? Ten majors? Eleven? Twelve? All of a sudden, it looks like anything is possible. I can't help wondering where Tiger Woods is now. For the sake of a yet-to-be-made movie, I hope he's pumping drives on a windswept range, thunder raging all around him...

rory mac in court. be interesting to see if they settle. otherwise his financial dealings will be under cross examination. that will no doubt get him dragged thru some mud. i notice the bbc has lost the rights to the open championship from 2017. more big time sport sold down the river.
