That Mikal Cronin album is a banger. Really enjoying Savages, too. gonna stick my neck out and call Mikal Cronin as album of the year .......until hearing the new National album. Five listens in, and possibly their best to date. I know the haterz still gonna hate; but there's no accounting for taste. Such a magnificent band.

I know the haterz still gonna hate; but there's no accounting for taste. Such a magnificent band. The new National album is indeed staggeringly good. Not gonna go as far and say it's their best (yet) but it's going head-to-head with Primal Scream for my Album of The Year (so far) Hopefully, Beady Eye will leak soon and that can be thrown into the mix.

So yeah, the new National album is exceptional. Probably agree with titchjuicy and say this could be their best yet.

Just listened to ''Bankbusted Nuclear Detergent Blues'', a jazz album with spoken words by Michael Horovitz (whoever he is) and Graham and Damon (from Blur) and Paul Wella. Was expecting some funky soul blues, it turned out to be not so good jazz with a nice sentence here and there. Sad to see a man who once was at the pinnacle of avant-garde (Modernism: A New Decade) lose himself in the shitty world of jazz. Then again, shouldn't have gambled on a record that has Dermot Oblong on it.

The new Fall album is the best one they've done since 2003.

So, you dont like The Real New Fall LP either? ffs
I found the 3 before this record the 3 worst ones they ever did. They all sounded the same to me, this is a welcome change.

I don't know what happened to me this week. I gave the new Vampire Weekend a go having not really enjoyed their first 2 records, and, I really like it. There's something infectious about it that keeps me coming back for more.
I feel so dirty right now.

Such a great few weeks for new leaks & shit. Connections - Private Airplane Already posted this song in the youtube thread but I don't care, it's my favourite song of the year. The album is also pretty damn sweet. 15 tracks in half an hour. Very much Guided By Voices with a touch of Teenage Fanclub. Can't get enough of it at the moment. I this album. Such a fun fast blast of catchy motherfucking shit. I get the same kick from this as I did the Pains debut and parts of Yuck's record. Has a Cribs/Replacements vibe in places too. I liked it at first but the songs just keep growing, might be my favourite of the year so far. exystence.net/blog/2013/05/04/connections-private-airplane-2013/Lumerians – The High Frontier psychedelic rock record with a few hints of prog. Not completely sold on the entire record yet but I've only had a couple of listens. I can imagine some people on here really digging their sound. & the new self titled Bass Drum of Death record is badass. I enjoyed parts of their debut, felt like if BRMC got into garage-rock and sounded more like Black Lips. It is the same kind of thing this time around but even more loud & fuzzy, they've also got much better songs this time around. Catchy as fuck. Only had one listen to Laura Marling's record which was a lot to take in, probably a bit too long at well over an hour long but she seems to be getting better with each release. Loved the minimal production, can see this being a real grower with time.

I've been a way a while.. was waiting ages for the internet to be properly hooked up. I've probably missed a bunch of new stuff (just going through pages of exystence now). I will say that the new That National album is realy good. I also agree with tucks about the new Vampire Weekend album.. I wasn't a big fan of the first album but the new one is really catchy. I wouldn't agree with Pitchfork though and say it's a 9.3/10 album. p.s. Anybody hear anything on MGMT's new album yet? I thought it was out in June but it seems it's not being hyped very much if so.

Gave that Connections record a go when I seen it on Exy, Karl. Was okay but didn't grab me. Only gave it the one listen, mind. Gonna go back and spend some time with it based on your recommendation.
Steve, how are you finding the new Camera Obscura? I'm just giving it a listen for the first time.

On first listen I thought the new Bass Drum of Death was quite mediocre, preferred the debut by a mile. Will try it again.
