Been enjoying the new offering from Laura Marling & Queens of The Stone Age. Two more very strong records from whats turning out to be an incredible year for music.

They've been very hit & miss since Songs For The Deaf.
As I say, really liking the new record. It's a bit sleazy; a bit dirty. Definitely feel like their most complete album since Songs For The Dead. Probably doesn't reach the heights, but it's doing it for me.

I liked the single from the new Camera Obscura one but can never really be arsed with their records, they're just a bit saccharine/samey after a while. Columbia_rocks_man's bird would be real mad if she heard me say that.

I really love Camera Obscura but on first listen I thought this seemed to be their weakest lp so far.

Yeah, had a couple of listens but it is below par for them. Absolutely loved their past two records.

Yeah, it's not a patch on My Maudlin Career. In fact I'd go further and say most of Desire Lines is just fucking dull. TBF they've said in interviews that they've had a lot of shit going on in their personal lives in the past few years and I can't help but think it's had an obvious effect on their music.

I'm actually loving the new Camera Obscura a lot. It's very high up on my top albums of 2013 (although we have 6 months to go yet).

New Camera Obscura is warm, comforting and with the usual sweet arrangements. But all of that does not save it from an incredible dullness.

Finding the new national album pretty dull fare at the moment as well unfortunately, at this rate the surface of my coffee table is going to be empty all year

I had the same feeling about The National record on first listen but absolutely love it now.

Karl, have you had a chance to listen to the James Skelly record yet? Yeah I did this morning, I didn't like it. James skelly has an amazing knack for a good melody but the songs come across really bland in an American radio kind of way. I'm not saying its bad, its well crafted, plenty of hooks but it just sounded too predictable for my tastes.

Better than Beady Eye, though LOL?
I'll give it a listen tonight.
Rolli: What are Gold Panda like? Any good?

Chill stuff within the electronic genre. More analogous to earlier Four Tet rather than Boards of Canada.
