What's the deal with Palma Violets? Any good? I seen they're on Rough Trade and seem to be a nme 'buzz' band.
Debut is on exystence.

I tried it but it didn't sound very special tbh.
Mazes have a new one out, Stocky should know, Stocky should know.

Palma Violets are like the Vaccines, without any tunes. Completely shit. I downloaded the album to see what all the fuss was about and I was suprised by it. I actually think it has a bit of a psych sound to it which i wasn't expecting, now don't get me wrong they aren't channeling the spirit of the 13th Floor Elevators but I actually really really like the album. Personal highlights for me are 'Step Up For The Cool Cats', 'All The Garden Birds', 'Last Of The Summer Wine' and '14'. They certainly piss all over The Vaccines.

Looks like Palma Violets are splitting opinions round these parts.
I downloaded it last week but didn't think much of it. All seemed a bit 'samey' to me and lacked any real standout moments. I'll probably give it another couple of spins but no really expecting anything to jump out and grab me.
Elsewhere, really loving the new Nick Cave & The Bad seeds album; it's pretty much the only thing I listened to. Lyrically, it's incredible; fucked up & twisted in a beautiful kind of way. Musically, it's fairly understated with not a lot going on but the way they build the music is beautiful.
I get the same kind of vibe from it as I did from Let England Shake.

yeah new nick cave is great.
i loved palma violets live when i saw them last year. was in the upstairs room of a tiny pub in norwich that never normally has gigs on and had a proper special feel about it. only listened to the lp once and it wasnt mindblowing but not given it anywhere near enough time to come up with a proper verdict yet.

The last BSP record is my favourite of theirs. Huge tunes.
Listened to Palma Violets again this morning, no change, it is shit. I'm surprised anybody with any taste would be bothered by another generic British guitar band, especially one with such forgettable tunes.

Last BSP was a complete and delicately overblown snoozefest.

The track by track review of the Palma Violet record by the NME is absolutely hilarious "sounds like The Strokes becoming seriously devoted to Ennio Morricone" "an even catchier rewrite of The Who's 'My Generation'" And many other equally accurated comparisons with the likes of Elvis, Pixies, MBV, Velvets, Libertines, Black Lips, Tame Impala, Orange Juice through The Kinks, Ramones, MC5, The Stooges, Undertones, Charlatans, Eddie Cochrane, Jim Morrison and Elvis Costello.
