So it's little over 6 months until my wedding and we've started the process of coming up with the song we'll have our first dance to.
Siobhan has loads of ideas, some good choices and some not so good choices.
The front runners so far are ...
When we started going out I gave her a mixtape which had 'Fake Empire' on it, she'd never heard The National before and they became her favourite band ever, and she's always loved the line "you know i dreamed about you for 29 years before i met you".
My favourite Smiths song and clocks in at just under 2 minutes so i won't have to dance for long, plus it's a beautiful tune.
I have my heart set on Spiritualized though, especially this version with the choir singing 'Can't Help Falling In Love'.
We met with the DJ the other day, he's basically told us to give him a 40 song playlist and he'll choose from that as well as throwing in the odd typical wedding tune to keep the guests happy.
So i'm picking 20 tunes and Siobhan is picking 20, can't wait to dance to 'Sylvester Lundgren' with the rest of the lads on my wedding night.

Out of those three, that is. The National song is too long, imagine dancing in front of those people, let alone for (edit) over 4 minutes! Fuck that...

Slow Show would be great if you want to alert any keen listeners to the line about thinking of your dick. Please Please Please is too miserable (although I love it), try a bit of Northern Soul to set the tone for the night...

I had Stand By Me (Ben e King) as she'd never seen the film and it was the first film we watched together.
I had planned on May You Never - John Martyn but decided on the above. Few suggestions including Frontier Psychiatrist which nearly made it. Basically I think you should go for the National as its a link between you 2. The other you mentioned you say you had your heart set on and your favourite Smiths tune
As long as its not a shite song and she has decent taste then you'll both pick something cool and something which means something to you both
Oh Johnny I didn't bother with a DJ, just made a playlist for it. Was brilliant fun making it, got everyone dancing. I can PM you the list if you'd like?

Ace of Spades?
At a cousin's wedding a couple of years back they had Can't Help Falling in Love, which worked well. It certainly brought a tear to my eye.

I have my heart set on Spiritualized though, especially this version with the choir singing 'Can't Help Falling In Love'. Where's that version from? I'd choose that one, as Rod said the Smiths song is too miserable and The National one doesn't fit too well imo.
