There's most likely already a thread about Waits here, somewhere, but I can't be 100% sure.
Anyway, I dipped my toe in the water with him last year, and liked what I heard. Unfortunately, I didn't get round to "getting into him" as much as I'd have liked.
So, this morning, I put all of his records onto my phone and listened to Nighthaws At The Diner on my way to work. What an absolutely phenomonal record. Plan on spending a lot more time with it this week, and hopefully falling in love with it more.
What's everyone's favourite Tom Waits album? Where should I go next? I've been reading a lot about Bone Machine, think I'll check that out next.

Rain Dogs & Swordfishtrombones are regarded by most as his best records. I also love Bone Machine, Blood Money & his last record Bad As Me.
I'd recommend staying with one record of his rather than dipping into huge chunks of his career at once.

Rain Dogs for me, although Bad As Me might be a good starting point as well.

WAITS
Heartattack and Vine, Raindogs, Closing Time & Swordfishtrombones are all utterly terrific.

Agree with Eddie ;D , though I rate Van Morrissey. Swap him with Joni Witchell and you have the three musketeers of tampon rock.
