It's my own band and we're pretty succesful in my street. I am on bongos.

Listened to a load of MAN TUNES to start my day, mostly BDI, stone roses etc

now giving the new james skelly album its first spin. im enjoying it, nice northern soul influenced guitar tunes. reminds me a bit of edwyn collins or some of weller's more soul influenced stuff. better than the last coral album on first listen anyway.

Skelly just plays it far too safe for my liking, it boarders MOR territory but his knack for a hook just about saves him. The Coral were seeming to get straighter and straighter with each release which made then that little bit more uninteresting to hear, a shame really. Beefheart for life.

This morning I had Springsteen on, fucking springsteen, a whole morning of Springsteen. I am seeing Springsteen tonight. Springsteen.

yeah i agree on the skelly thing. the first album was geniunely fresh and exciting when it first came out. I know we were all ten years younger and not so knowledgeable about music but i still think if that lp came out today it would get us all interested. it almost feels as if they matured a bit too quickly.

I only heard the new Skelly once and didn't find a reason to listen to it ever again. The last Coral album was quite decent tbh.

Today I've heard The National's Trouble Will Find Me. As you might guess it's a National record.

Listened to Definitely Maybe in full for the first time in years. Fuck me, it's so great.

When Bring It On Down came on I felt like flipping my desk and punching all of the windows out with my bare hands.

Heard the new Smith Westerns record, they have continued with softening their sound, still too early to judge if it's a right decision.

I found a shed seven live album in the remainder bin in my local record store a month or so a few months ago. (Original price: $30...I got it for $3.) Bought it under the 'hey, I've heard of them from the 90s!' rule, and stuck it on the stereo today while I was cleaning.

It's really bad. Why were these guys popular?

I just listened to Crazy Rythms by The Feelies. I think I already gave it a chance once JP bigged it up. I wasn't very impressed with it, quite Jonathan Richmanesque, some good songs and that's it.

Ed Harcourt - Here Be Monsters [7]

Bobby Womack - Fly Me To The Moon [8.5]
Womack's debut, superb stuff. Some great arrangements of stuff like California Dreaming & the title track.

Gabriel Bruce - Love In Arms [7]
Pretty good Nick Cave meets Cohen type stuff. A few real crackers on here.

Neil Young - Harvest Moon [6]
I've never been able to really get into Harvest Moon. Many seem to rank it as one of his best "later years" records but for me it just sounds like Neil in auto-pilot

Willie D - Controversy [7.5]
Late 80s Gangsta Rap, pretty fucking hilarious in places. Songs about bitches on welfare, the KKK & how much he loves pussy.

Ryan Adams - Cardinology [7]
I was bummed out on the whole Cardinals thing by the time this came out so never gave it a proper chance. Revisiting it a bit lately I've realised that its a pretty good record.

Tom Waits - Blue Valentine [6.5]
This is still growing on me though I definitely prefer the stranger side to Tom Waits rather than his more conventional singer/songwriter material.

I fucking love Cloud Nothings early releases.

Also The Byrds debut really clicked today. Always liked them as a band, their sound is obviously as good as it gets, but their albums seemed a little bit weak. Today it just was amazing from start to end, don't know why.

I've seen Turn Turn Turn the album doesn't get much love, but the song is one of the best creation of human being so I might try it.

Arab Strap - Philophobia [4]
I'm really sorry JP, I've given it about 4 or 5 goes & I really don't like it much Lyrically I can get on board with it but musically I find it so incredibly dull. I much prefer Monday at the Hug & Pint, I think Philophobia is considered more of a slowcore record & tbh I don't think I've ever been too fussed on anything that is classed under that.

Tin Machine - Tin Machine II [6]
I enjoy this much more than the first Tin Machine record. At least Bowie sounds like he's having fun this time around & you can tell he's being influenced by some of the American alternative music of the time. Still sounds like he's in about third gear but its a decent enough record.

Hunx and His Punx - Street Punk [7]
Enjoyed pretty much everything I've heard from Hunx. This new record is a bit more punk-rock than garage rock. The whole record must last about 20 minutes. Good stuff.

The Duckworth Lewis Method - Sticky Wickets [7.5]
This is growing on me with each listen. At first I only thought a couple of tunes matched the material on their debut, now there's only a couple I'm not sure about. Still without a doubt the worlds greatest creators of concept albums about cricket.

A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders [8.5]
I'd always got this confused with their debut for some reason so realised I'd never fucking heard it. Only had a couple of listens thus far but its sounded superb & made a great soundtrack to the sunny days we've had lately. The usual problem I have with a lot of Hip-hop exists in that it's probably a bit too long for its own good but there is plenty of gold spread throughout.

Also gotten into Elvis Costello's first two records which are both wonderful, This Year's Model is pretty much faultless.

Billy Paul - 360 Degrees of Billy Paul (1972)
Smooth Philly Soul. It's a real mixed bag. The political themed tunes really hit the spot but then there are some covers including a really drawn out (to the point of becoming tedious) version of Let's Stay Together. There's enough gold throughout to make it worthwhile though.

Adam Franklin & Bolts of Melody - Black Horses [2013]
I'm hooked on the opening track Asha, one of the best songs I've heard all year. Unfortunately nothing else on the record comes close, it's all pretty decent yet seems to plod along without ever really grabbing my attention as much as it probably should.

David Bowie - Black Tie White Noise [1993]
I've been working my way slowly but surely through Bowie's entire career & this is where I'm currently at. I've given this plenty of goes yet it still feels completely underwhelming. The record has dated pretty poorly, it has that drum beat that everybody was using in the early 90s that nobody will touch with a bargepole these days. It's by no means a terrible record but song-writing wise Bowie is a long way away from striking gold. It's a real mixed bag of songs and mostly a mess.

Burning Spear - Marcus Garvey [1975]
Regarded as one of the all-time classic Roots Reggae records & after 4-5 listens I'd have to agree. There's just an atmosphere captured in the recording that I cannot put into words.

Scott & Rivers - スコットとリバース (Scott & Rivers) (2013)
Rivers Cuomo and some other cunt do an album mostly in Japanese. It's catchy as fuck but equally as corny. The second track is the bollocks. Its better than the last few Weezer records I've heard anyway.
