As for the album, I really like it; miles better than The Suburbs which was a total letdown for me.
Then again, I suppose my opinion counts for shit round here these days since I subjected some of you fuckers to that Virginmary's record.

sounded more interesting than the suburbs on first listen, but i really can't see myself listening to it much more because nothing really grabbed me. will probably give it one more try, though.
unrecognisable from the band which made funeral.

Bland is the word that came to mind, yes.
I thought it was going to be Kid A-bad but it's only Coldplay X&Y bad. With less catchy bits.

I want to like it as I think it's good they've changed up their sound and there's a lot of variety...but the songs in general aren't good enough. The title track is bloody awesome though, maybe even the best thing they've done since Funeral, but although almost every song has good ideas a lot of them just sound like poorer imitations of other stuff. And Afterlife is the song that's most like their other stuff but while their older stuff would have amazing lyrics and various twists and turns Afterlife sounds really formulaic which is a real shame. Porno and It's Never Over are really good and the Supersymmetry is a great closer, but too much of the rest is listenable, nice but not memorable enough.
Still one of the best live bands out there which is why it's a shame, maybe these songs will make more sense live.
