gutted by this, what a legend. he did look proper frail when i saw him live a few years back though. the roadies literally had to put the guitars on him and left them off as he just sat there.
RIP

Some are saying it's a hoax, but I dunno. Quite strange, I listened to Transformer on Friday after a long time and yesterday I was talking about him with some friends, which doesn't happen very often either.

Death to Tom Leonard and anyone who has ever bought the Daily Mail.

Ignoring the Daily Fail, I just wanna take this opportunity to say that Lou Reed's best songs are on the Velvet Underground selt-titled album.
Pale Blue Eyes > Sister Ray > Metal Machine Music > me tapdancing > Sweet Jane

Yeah they're all good. VU took me the longest to get into but it's actually the one I go back to more than the others.

I've never been blown away by Loaded, but the first three are masterpieces. I tend to agree though that the self titled third album is probably my favourite at a push, just edging out the debut. White Light/White Heat is definitely a mood album in that I have to be really in the mood to listen to it, but its still utterly superb.

Love tvuan, great record. Got it back in the days of buying cd's after seeing it on one of those '100 greatest albums' programmes and obviously at first didn't know any of it, apart from 'venus in furs' so didnt give it much love, but gradually had that great experience of it all just clicking song by song. One of my real favourites now, and probably the coolest looking band ever

All the VU albums are great TBF. JUST LIKE SISTER RAY SAYS This. I'd personally rate Loaded as the best one and obviously don't listen to White Light/White Heat that often, but all four are incredible.

I used to listen to White Light/White Heat on a daily basis in 2007. But that probably says more about my frame of mind back then than anything else.

I am coming towards the end of my Bowie back catalogue go-through, which has taken the entire year but I've enjoyed going through everything in order for better or for worse. I think I may move onto Lou Reed when I'm finished, I've never given his solo work the time of day & I've not listened to much Velvet Underground for a good few years now so it'll be nice to revisit it all.
Can't wait to get to the album with Metallica!
