Rediscovered Ian's solo career over the past few days. Some of his records I'd not heard for a number of years. If the Roses do end up making music again then I must say, he's left behind a solid back catalogue.
I'd forgot just how political his lyrics get at times. He manages just as many atrocious lines as memorable ones, but when he gets it right it's really effective, especially with his style of vocals which complement his lyrics perfectly.
I still can't get into The World Is Yours, it's slightly better than I remember it being but I think the songs weren't memorable enough & the orchestral parts ended up sucking out the life of many of the tracks.
The rest of his solo work I really enjoy, his first three solo records hold up really well & whilst they all have forgettable moments, on the whole they are excellent records.
Solarized & My Way might be a step down from the first three but they've still got enough good moments to make them worthwhile.
I don't think Ian made a classic solo record but over the course of those six solo records he really made some great tunes.
Was nice revisiting the lot, I bet the Roses never release another record I think right now I'd rather see Ian do another solo gig as right now I've no interest in seeing the Roses play those same songs again unless they are going to come back with new material.
