There's a pub in Southend which the owner bought with the money he got after supporting The White Stripes on a UK tour 6-7 years ago. They were fucking shit!
Jack literally picked them out of nowhere. God knows why. Shit.
Anyway, Wilko drinks in there and gets up and jams every now and then. I was there with The Maze for this last Xmas. You can hear us both shouting "One More!" at the end which I used to shout a lot with Mahoney, along with "GET YER HITS OUT" and various swears, back in the day.
The drummer owns the pub, the piano player has his own band and they are fucking shit. The bass player is a session musician and does some guttering on the side.
Chas, from Chas and Dave, played there that night. Cool pub but they charge over £4 a pint so they can go fuck themselves.
The Southend indie scene...fuck yeah
