Didn't knew "Sue" and "Pity" were included on Blackstar so that makes only 3 new songs left for me EDIT: Both have been reworked so that's something

Just on my first listen through of Blackstar, and man, it's really something. I think it's going to get better and better on repeated listens. You can here little things going on in the background that I think will start becoming more prominent as you listen.

Agreed Tux, I've only heard it twice but it could well be his best work since Scary Monsters (36 years ago!).
That Hinds record I'm not into, it's very basic indie music. I thought they'd be more garage-rock sounding tbh.

I couldn't listen to any more than 3 songs by Hinds before I switched it off.

The guitar part that runs alongside the awesome SAX SOLO in Dollar Days gives me a boner.
The only track I'm not yet sold on after 3 listens is the last one, I Can't Give Everything Away. The whole album feels like a complete piece of work until that track. It feels very much late 90s Bowie, like an outtake from Earthling. The drum beat just feels dated, the sax solo is slightly cheesy & predictable & the guitar solo is just fucking awful. Such a shame because stuff such as Lazarus, Sue & Girl Loves me are so damn good.

IGNORE MY ABOVE POST, ON MY 4TH LISTEN I'VE DECIDED THAT I REALLY LIKE THE LAST TRACK. the guitar solo can get fucked but I like the fact the record ends with a musically uplifting number. This album is so fucking good. If this doesn't end up being in my top five for the year then 2016 will have been really great.

Yeah, I'm loving the Bowie album. So much to enjoy and take in. An obvious thing to say, but he's taken proper care with this.

this new bowie album has killed off my new order and the cure obsession and ive now started going through his back catalogue and checking out some of the less highly rated albums that ive never listened to before. gave lets dance, young americans and the man who sold the world spins today and was pleasantly surprised for the most part. was shocked at how heavy the man who sold the world is at times and lets dance whilst slightly cheesey in production has some real good tunes on it.
any reccommendations of where i should head next? ive obviously heard all of the popular albums. the ones ive never tried are basically the first tww, pin ups and then all albums from tonight onwards up until the next day. a few people have said this new one is in a similar vein to some of his 90s work, any there worth a listen?

Heathen & Reality are pretty good. Also dig Earthling & Hours.
Many people really love 1.Outside, I dig it though it never clicked with me in a big way. Avoid Tonight which is dogshit. Not keen on Black Tie White Noise or Never Let Me Down either.

I never got into Hours, Earthling or 1.Outside. Might revisit them this weekend if I can tear myself away from this.
On my 3rd listen through today, this time while on my way home on the train and drinking beer.

FFUUUUCK!! It's so good.
I can't see this not being in my Top 10 come the end of the year. Tbh, it will take something quite special to stop this being album of the year.
Staggering stuff.

joining in on the bowie love-in, listened to it today and wow it's one hell of a record. felt like there was a whole album's worth of stuff going on in the first track alone. couldn't pinpoint a weak spot on first listen, the whole thing felt crammed with things to enjoy and perfectly paced. very impressive.

I can't stop playing this god damn record. I really don't want to get into rankings & whatnot, but for me already this record can sit comfortably next to some of his top tier work.

& LOL @ Mahoney's little rant about I Can't Give Everything Away, what a euphoric & joyous end to a wonderful record.

hahaha I'm listening to it now, fuck its amazing "I know something is very wrong The pulse returns the prodigal sons... I can't give everything away". "Seeing more and feeling less Saying no but meaning yes This is all I ever meant That's the message that I sent" and the awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay bit, it's like he's floating off into space. best song ever. I've not done a U-turn like this for so long! Or since that Kendrick record a few weeks ago
