Just back from seeing Nada Surf, that band that got Popular out of a Dry Cleaning cover, then managed to get a 25 years career trying to run away from it
Edit: 7.7

Quite like the single from the new record, will give the record a go. Never gotten into them minus the one super-hit

Is Doug Gillard from GBV still in Nada Surf too? I would have thought that would put Mahoney all over it.

I didn't like the record minus that song it was a bit too nice. What they need to do is just talk absolute bollocks over the tracks & I'll proclaim it's the best thing ever. Went to the BBC6music "festival" thing at the roundhouse Friday. Michael Kiwanuka was topping the bill but had to pull out which meant there was an abundance of cheap tickets going. Me & Kev got a pair for £30. Black Midi were on at 7, it really looked like they was going to play to an empty room 10 minutes before they was on there was only about 30 people there. They got a decent enough crowd by the time they had started though. I'd imagine their set was hated by anybody that hadn't heard of them. Great stuff even if it was a little short. I'll never tire of watching Matt look like he's going to kill someone on guitar & Morgan is possibly the greatest drummer I've seen (top 5 for sure). Nadine Shah was brought in to fill the gap in the bill, I saw her at the Moth club the other week so wasn't expecting this to top that but fuck, she was incredible.. best thing I've seen so far this year. The sound was just flawless, loud & clear. Left after that as the prospect of an early night was too good to pass on. Bittany Howard topped the bill, I imagined she'd be decent enough, though I watched some yesterday on the Iplayer & it looked pretty bland coffee table soul. Might have enjoyed it had I been there but I'm glad I made a swift exit. Chrissie

then last neet SUPERGRASS at Ally Pally with Rod n Kev. It was a fucking blast. The Coral supported, was gutted to see they only had half hour, seemed such a waste though looking back it was probably for the best so there wasn't more than one recent song Jacqueline Pass It On Bill McCai In the Morning some song that sounded like Def Leppard God it was awful Goodbye Dreaming of You You can't argue with that, even Kevin "they're-dead-to-me-without-Bill-Ryder-Jones" Burgess enjoyed it. There's no way I'd ever pay to see that band again unless Bill came back and they were touring the 1st album or something, but for a support slot they're still a joy. Supergrass had been a bit too overly ambitious doing two nights so it wasn't sold out which was lovely. We stood miles back but the sound was pretty good & more importantly had lots of space to pull shapes. It was a fucking blast, it was like seeing the Strokes at that outdoor gig the other year, the band only need to turn up & play the hits and they've won. Also, respect to Rod pointing out that Loz Colbert (also in my top 5 drummers) was stood behind us the entire gig, I hope he was impressed by our pogo-stick dance during Late in the Day. I shook his hand so if die from the virus I want it to be known that the drummer from Ride infected me. Really wonderful night though, I barely have a voice this morning. Only down side was that I strategically went for a piss during Diamond Hoo Ha Man, but the toilets are up about 3000 stairs so by the time I got back down I had missed Sitting up Straight which is my all-time #1 Supergrass number.

The Cool Greenhouse topped the bill. Saw them last year doing a support slot, did a good 45 minute set of spoken-word post-punk. Very sarcastic lyrics with really repetitive rhythms. Great stuff, becoming one of my favourite new bands quickly. just seen that the lead singer of these lives in norwich. dont think theyve ever played a gig there as far as i know though the bunch of cunts.

First ever socially distanced gig tonight and it worked pretty well.
Was a z list britpop extravaganza featuring Chris Helme from The Seahorses, Nigel Clarke from Dodgy and Mark Moriss from The Bluetones. Oh it was good to be back guys.

Hey, just back from a show! A morning two bands session by the sea with a huge mindblowing sun and beer to pair with it, seagulls flying, people canoeing and some big yatchs passing by. Masks, separation, everyone seated and all that obvs. So yeah, quite strange but nice nonetheless.
Melenas are something in the vein of Vivian Girls and their sophomore record is quite good, they were quite charming and sounded fine if only a little rusty? Mujeres I've seen quite a few times and this was far from the best (mostly for the aseptic vibe) but the amount of tunes they're piling up and the sing alongs after so many months with no live music felt really great.
