Liam Gallagher supported by Cast and Villanelle at Sheffield Arena last night
Possibly the greatest gig of all time. Certainly rivalled the feeling of first seeing The Stone Roses.
You've all seen the setlist by now and even though I was expecting deep cuts he still managed to catch me off guard by doing the likes of Lock All the Doors. It was proper thrilling not knowing what was coming next.
I doubt anyone Oasis related will ever do a set as good as this tour again so those of you going are in for a proper treat. Liam sounded great too.
Villanelle are Gene's band and I watched 2 songs before rejoining the bar queues foe the rest of their set. Clearly not ready for this type of gig yet.
Cast were excellent though. I've really loved their new album and they did a handful from it mixed with the big 90s tunes and went down really well.

Dana Gavanski at the lower third. I like new new record even if it does sound like a bbc6music version of cate le bon. Decent set if nothing too memorable. Bingo Fury opened, 3rd time seeing him, same feelings I've had the previous times. A lot of talent yet never quite grabbing me how it probably should.
A decent night had with popular forum member Kevin.

Liam @ the O2 Didn't bother when it went on sale, the price surging arena's use now puts me off going when you can't see how much a ticket is in advance. When I saw the Sheffield setlist I had to grab a ticket. Got a pretty good seat, high up but side to the stage. I only saw Oasis from 2001 onwards, so you'd always have to tolerate shit in the set like Little By Little, Hung in a Bad Place or Let Their Be Love. Shame there was no Listen Up but fuck, I never thought I'd get to hear so many of those tunes live. Liam sounded great, even hitting the "Bring it on home to where we found" note. Digsy's Dinner was a surprising highlight. Bonehead there for the whole gig too was sexy. It was bloody perfect. Will have to sit on it for a while but it could possibly be the best Liam/Oasis gig I've seen. 2001 noise and confusion will always be special then the Astoria in 05 was great too. Both due to them being small venues. But this was great, big up to his team, the videoscreen game was top notch. thought Cast was supporting when I bought the ticket but didn't do my homework & got The View. They were shit & sing in a funny language. then last neet back at the O2, I love my arena rock more than SRK. I saw the double whammy of SMASHING PUMPKINS & WEEZER. I've wanted to see Weezer forever but was always put off with the fact they're totally shit The setlist was... probably as good as I could have hoped for. Only a couple from Pinkerton but 7 from Blue then Hash Pipe, Island in the Sun, Dope Nose, Pork & Beans & a cover of Celebrity Skin which went down a treat. Of course there was shit I didn't want to hear sprinkled in but it could have been worse, they could have performed Africa. I really fucking enjoyed it Smashing Pumpkins I have a weird relationship with. The big hits I still do this day love & I don't know what it is but they hold this really strong sentimental nostalgia for me. Every 6 years or so I think you know what, maybe I should deep dive into the Pumpkins & I listen to their first 3 albums and everytime am reminded that I simply don't like them... other than the hits. Smashing Pumpkins fans are very unsexy too. Other than Perfect the bald twat got the hits out I wanted. It was hard work though & I didn't last until the end & pissed off For an arena show there was no screens for Weezer or Pumpkins which tbh is a bad move when you're playing a huge venues. I didn't realise what Billy was wearing until I saw a photo after, I would have left earlier had I known. anwyay, I can die happy hearing those Oasis B-sides & seeing Weezer live. I'm semi-tempted to keep an eye out for a ticket for Liam monday or tuesday but maybe that's enough nostalgia for now. Plus I don't want to purchase anymore £9.20 pints.

Liam @ the O2
Not much more to be said but this was in the top drawer of Oasis related gigs over the years. Liam in absolutely fantastic form. Despite the crowd being a little odd in place (quite a few finance vests in attendance) the vibe was good throughout. The classic were absolutely roared home at the end. Only a few tunes seemed to drop the mood (Lock All The Doors and Good To Be Free) with many I've wasn't focused on just being an absolute joy (Up In The Sky, Columbia). Liam version of Half The World Away went down a treat. In short, a real party atmosphere.
It is worth pointing out that Noel's shadow did not loom over this at all. They will only be able to deliver on the nostalgia for so long so good on Liam for bringing so much joy the masses. Noel simply couldn't be involved in this without bringing his usual levels of droll negativity to the whole thing. He is best kept a million miles away from Liam's wrecking crew.

Liam @ Cardiff
Fucking unreal, about 4 people from the barrier in front of Bonehead. Absolutely smashed, sang my head off from start to finish. Did think the sound was pants in there though
Liam @ O2 (Friday night)
Again, the sound was shit, got better through the gig though. I was upstairs this time, crowd were pretty shit apart from the obvious songs.

oddisee at voodoo daddys norwich tonight
this was really fucking good
norwich went through a spell of getting loads of good hip hop gigs a few years back but it has been bone dry on the hip hop front here since 2018 when my mate chucked a pint at ghostface for coming on an hour late and he left the stage after 16 seconds.
oddisee is an incredible rapper and built a real nice rapport with the small but passionate crowd. felt like one of those gigs that was a real moment and honour to be there. my mate i went with only really came on my recommendation and left saying it was one of his top 10 gigs of all time.

Taylor Swift - Cardiff
I know, I know, but my daughter loves her. What can you do
She played for nearly 4 hours, fair play to her for that. But not my cup of tea, Paramore were better imo
10/10 for my daughter 3/10 for me

Nick Lowe and Ron Sexsmith the other night. Both solo acoustic, except when Ron came onstage with the great man to duet on a few songs at the end. Both great songwriters, both great shows. Glad I went. 8/10

The breeders @ the troxy last neet
Man, this was fucking great! I dunno was just expecting it to be pretty solid and enjoy the better known songs but the whole gig was dynamite. Threw in Gigantic too.
Big Joanie supported. Perfectly acceptable rock set for a support act though nothing memorable.

Courtney Barnett @ The Garage last neet
Had only seen her do festival appearances before so was great to get a full set. The quieter tunes were kept to a minimum & for a 3 piece they go pretty hard. She's been supporting foo fighters on their stadium shows so I guess the set is RAWKED up a bit to suit those shows but I loved the sound. Also her band is totally different from the previous times I've seen her. no idea who the Herbert on the bass was but I'm pretty sure the drummer is in Warpaint. Great set, most the big hits you'd want to hear. Support was by Chloe Slater, big commercial sound from her and the band, I reckon they'll do well for themselves. Just nothing that interests me

The outlaw music fest last week. We went mainly for Dylan. I wasn’t planning to go but we got $25 seats on the lawn (more on that later) and couldn’t say no. Drove up on the day not knowing if willie Nelson was going to be there. Got to the venue around. 4 and it turned out that no, he was still 91-years old and sick. So surrounded by a lot of drunk annoyed American hicks. Not good. Show started with a bland inoffensive black woman blues guitarist named Celisse. Then Robert plant & Alison Krauss did the exact same set I saw them do last year, except surrounded by a bunch of drunk, annoyed Americans. I got progressively more and more annoyed, since this may be the last time I ever see Bob, so I want to enjoy it. Looked on stubhub and a bunch of willie fans tried to sell their good seats for cheap, so we bought two and went down to the seats.
Glad I did because Dylan was fab. Hadn’t checked the setlist, and happy I didn’t because he actually surprised me. A bunch of weird shit and old covers. And Jim keltner on drums! Great set.
And then Willie’s son came out and did some Willie songs so we left after 20 minutes. Fun night. 8/10

Was you at the Dylan gig where he scratched his balls? Looked intense!
ANOHNI & the Johnson's at the Barbican. Good shit, she did a cover of Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child which was fucking incredible. Unfortunately decided to tell a story for 20 minutes prior to playing it. But good gig + it was done early + attended by popular forum member Krburg.

Geordie Greep @ The Lexington with popular forum member Krburg starting to think it may be "former black midi frontman" as he has a new band and is playing tunes that Black Midi were previewing last year. Either way, his new band are shit hot. Left to his own devises his prog influences shine a bit brighter. Geordie's guitar playing is just phenomenal. tbh I don't watch a lot of bands that play anything that technical but fucking hell watching his hands move around that fret board is impressive. Also as a vocalist he has become more confident and has one of the more unique voices I can think of right now. Impressive gig, can't wait for he/the band to release some music.
support band were called "Known For", one of those angry hardcore punk meets post-punk type deals with no sense of humour or anything interesting about them. Was good at what they do but this type of sound really isn't my thing at all. Though they did win me over with a banging cover of Cinnamon Girl to end their set so fair play.

last neet I saw legendary Detroit garage-punk icons The Gories at the Garage with no popular forum members. Holiday Ghosts opened, I think I've seen them open 4 times for bands now & they're always enjoyable if never overly impressive. Definition of a solid opener. Then Gories were great, despite getting on in age still delivered a good slice of primitive rock n roll for 70 minutes. Gig was done well before 10pm which was a dream for old man mahoney.
