I'm sure there are a few folk on here that used to download music from the Dancing Jesus forum back in the day. There used to be so many forums around the mid-2000s I had forgotten all about it, but then this Vice feature popped up today on what happened to its founder. Basically, although he made no money from running the site, and didn't leak albums himself, the BPI and wider record industry decided to make an example of him and he was jailed for 32 months - a properly harsh sentence considering most other leakers have been given relatively small fines. The guy still comes across really well, however, and it's a nostaligc read for the days when music forums were still king. noisey.vice.com/blog/the-story-of-kane-robinson-the-man-who-cost-the-music-industry-240million

Yeah I read this article yesterday, a good read. I did enjoy that place, somebody imported the Japanese Dustins Bar Mitzvah record and turtleed it for me, HEROES. Feel sorry for the guy(s) that did time over it. Even oink got a mention on the article, I'm glad they never investigated the oink "donations", cos I would have been in trouble for sure Everytime I got banned I donated to get back on Away from the piracy issues of the article it got me thinking about the death of the message board. Not just here, but in general. It's a shame that they all seem to be on a steady decline. I guess social media has a lot to do with this, plus people doing a lot of their web browsing on phones means people don't take the time to reply or put much effort in anymore. For instance the article you posted was shared on Facebook by Mr David and I think someone else from here, I clicked & read and didn't bother to reply because I was probably having my morning poo at the time. I do wonder if it would be worth trying to get some of the big posters of yesteryear back on the soapbox to see if there could be some kind of resurrection. I blame hehe & Murphy for the past six months decline, even I stopped barely posting for a bit cos it was so shit. Also I want to stop looking at the soapbox on my phone, as I click threads and think "oh I'll reply to that later", then never do.

As much as I hate the hehe lately, I don't think he has anything to do with the soapbox decline. I mean, you can surely filter what you want to read and where to post, the problem is when the only new posts are shit.
I also remember Dancing Jesus although it's all a bit of a blur for me.

The Strokes new album would've been released this year had it not been for him Barny.
