Agreed ed, especially combined with the Swamp Song intro and Liam swaggering out mid-tune.

I mentioned twice in my write-up that it's not. No one is reading your write-ups, Lino.

A Quick Peep - Can't even be arsed to listen to back to this to see if I hate it now as much as I hated it then.
Acquiesce - What can you say? It's the spirit of Oasis. If you don't love this song you don't like Oasis

Can you really hate a one minute instrumental? Just saying The Cage was well worth the wait, 90 track or something as I remember. Genuinely can't remember how it goes thus speed up Lino and I'll have a play!

The Jap wasn't doing karaoke. Great song. Like ABWR too. AQP probably don't like it as i have no idea what it sounds like. I've not rewatched the Acquiesce video since it first came out; I remember it being pretty dull and a poor match. I wasn't going to watch it again.

A Quick Peep fits in the context of the album (not that I ever listen to what comes before it...actually, what does come before it?) but is pretty throwaway stuff. I'm sure Krburg will back me up in saying that it's the only Oasis tune in DADGAD tuning.
Acquiesce is a great song, but I don't think the studio version has anything on 95/96-era Alan White live versions. Even then, there's a risk that you'll pick one where it's all going well until Noel steps up to the mic.

I wouldn't even risk trying to think about that song being any different. It sounds so effortless like they just plugged in the guitars but clearly it's got a few layers of genius which was much more than just hitting the record button.
Anyway I'm finding it hard to rank these songs outta 10. Even the 6/7 outta 10s are still as enjoyable as a lot of other band's 8/9 outta 10s. But if we're comparing the early days to the later days then of course there's gonna be lots of duds. But I'm leaving marks off for this reason.

Ain't Got Nothin'
Liam penned album track from final album Dig out you soul, it's fast, loud, and short (2:14). It's got that garage rock, punk feel that Liam loves, the lyrics speaking of persecution, defiance, defensiveness and threats via very short sentences.
A very odd touch is the screaming low in the mix during the instrumental break; once this ends those moody backing vocals come in to accompany the final chorus.
Being a Liam song, he does mention that it's a song - "here's a song, sing along".
One of the better songs on the album; a sister track to Don't Believe The Truth's Meaning of Soul - 8/10.
Your thoughts?

Actually quite like the album but this song pisses me off (probably vice verse for a few). The verses and pounding drums are cool and should lead to something mega but the chorus and that lyric you mentioned just kill my erection. Maybe the best cover of an Oasis song.

a bell will ring - it's ok. pretty forgettable but not as bad as some of the duds that were starting to fly around in the 00s.
a quick peep - in a better context this would be alright. it doesn't really work in heathen chemistry as not a lot really works on that album full stop.
acquiesce - as others have said, a proper classic. really comes into its own live too.
ain't got nothin - i like the shouting towards the end of this. decent liam rocker that keeps it short and simple. could see this fitting in well on as you were actually.

I can't remember the last time I listened to Ain't Go Nothin', but it's the kind of tune I text Columbia_rocks_man in block capitals when I've had 10 pints.

Alive
Rough demo tacked on as a b-side to Shakermaker; the bass is heavier than usual in the mix and Liam's accent is more pronounced - the Stone Roses influence is very clear.
The lyrics are garbage, little meaning to them but for the most part they rhyme. Even if the recording quality was higher, it would be something I'd skip.
Other unreleased tracks from those early demos are superior (See the sun, especially). It's not better than anything on Definitely Maybe so they made the right call in not redoing it. 4/10
Your thoughts?

It's crap. Always surprised they chose to release a track like Alive, when they had so many better unreleased choices (Colour My Life, Must be the Music, Take Me). Any of them deserved an official release ahead of Alive.

Totally agree.
I love the low-fi punky sound of this, the lyrics are pretty great also as is Liam's young naive Mancunian twang. It's something completely different to the rest of their back catalague. Of course, it would never have fitted DM or even The Masterplan, but it's another sound of Oasis. 8-track recording, Oasis, you mad? I like it a lot.

(Colour My Life, Must be the Music, Take Me) See the sun! See the sun! See the sun! See the Sun is great as well. I'd like to see Oasis do a Bootleg series, similar to Dylan. Give the early unreleased stuff a proper issue. Polish up a few of the live sets that had been doing the rounds online for years.
