AATW (reprise) - actually a cool ending to the album just for having a different type of closure than the first two records. They outro'd with this then opened with another instrumental the album later - I do like that. I wonder how they sound back to back Angel Child - works being stripped down instead of tripe like Magic Pie and Flashbax that weren't, so glad it was stayed as a demo. It's a sweet enough tune yet without the cringe. Outro is lovely. Bag It Up - perfect album opener for an underrated album. Course it ain't Acquiesce or Hello but it's an ideal first track.

Be Here Now
It's the title track to third Oasis album, so it's big and bold. Noel famously plinked out the intro on a toy piano he found at Mick Jagger's Mustique mansion or something, and was amazed that it was done in the same time signature as Honky-tonk woman - whatever.
Liam's voice is at its peak on this album and this track is a shining example of that.
Liam's taken to performing this live during his current solo tour, probably primarily because of the best couplet - "Been kicking up a storm; from the day that I was born"; sums him up.
It ends with some nice duelling vocals with Liam's "Come on, come on, come..." and Noel's "yeah yeah yeah". 7/10
And you?

YOU BETCHA. One of the best on the album of the same name. Never got to hear them play it live but LG's resurrection of it over the last year has been the best Oasis cover he's done. Columbia_rocks_man and I were two of about 6 people in the Citrus Club when the DJ spun it to start the night back in about 2005; I've no idea why that still gets talked about to this day.
I even enjoy the flushing bog.

Agreed. Be Here now sounds too invincible to give way to the tackiness. Stridently fun as fuck. Love it.

AATW (reprise) - yeah why not, reprises are always a little pointless but can dig this
Angel Child - this couldve been great if the dwarf let the singer sing the song. One of his worst vocal performances, ruins the song.
Bag It Up - underrated tune, hardly ever listen to it though.
Be Here Now - This is my most played tune on itunes.

Bag It Up - 7/10
Be Here Now 9/10
Be Here Now is the only song on the record where it sounds like the band is having fun. In my opinion, that is what makes it one of the strongest songs on the record.

Better Man
Album closer, the third of Liam's contributions to Heathen Chemistry, it's a Second Coming era Stone Roses style sludge rock track with minimal lyrics.
The sentiment is fine - "Don't want to hurt you - I just want to see what's in your hands".
Lots of "Alright now" and "Yeah yeah yeah". Some monkey sounds peppered throughout, I recall the leaked advance copy missing the horns that intrude from 3:08. My memory is of this song being ridiculously long, but it's only 4:20; it just seems longer because there's not much to it. The worst of Liam's contributions to this album, and - yes - worse than his prior effort, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants' Little James.
It's a 3/10.
All y'all?

I rate it. It's primitive, but I love the groove and the Helter Skelter/Second Coming style guitars (which I think might be Gem and Johnny Marr - does Noel even play on this?). There's a snippet of an acoustic demo on the SCYHO single DVD which I'd love to hear in full - it probably wouldn't sound out of place on As You Were. One of my favourites on HC and a rare moment where you don't notice how bad the production is.

Better Man is okay. I always dug the demo version a tad more, as it has a noticeable Cold Turkey vibe and I believe some subtle sax, along with female backing vocals.

I remember going to a Heathen Chemistry album launch/listening party at Club Ifor Bach in Cardiff and got there not long before they fucked it off and played different songs the rest of the night. Asked the DJ to put Better Man on at some point and he said 'yeah, definitely'. Did he fuck. Anyway, I like Better Man despite it reminding me of this deceit.

I remember going to a Heathen Chemistry album launch I went to a midnight launch for HC too. Got a free poster. It is certainly the worst Oasis album. I even enjoy the flushing bog. I... never even knew that was there.

Bonehead's Bank Holiday
WTSMG bonus track, Noel written, Noel sung (but originally planned for a Bonehead vocal), this is a playful, comical little track that sounds more Britpop than anything else in the Oasis catalogue.
The opening's always reminded me of Sgt Pepper's - you've got references to stealing cars, seeing the sun, a beach in Spain, a polluted beach in England - it's all fun.
"She was with her mum who had a face like a nun in pain" is a particularly bad line that could easily have been tidied up.
The song proper ends in three minutes with the last minute or so being studio silliness including Bonehead himself incredulously reading the lyrics out. Never performed live, right?
I can't resist this, and wish there had been a bit more of this fun along the way. It's a 7/10.
Your thoughts?

Be Here Now - Liam's vocals own this, and as already mentioned only 90s Oasis could put a flushing toilet on a song and make it sound majestic
Better Man - Forgettable and I think there's a bit of a Liam bias coming out here with some. As an album closer it's especially poor. Times were rough
Bonehead's Bank Holiday - love this tune, I still attempt to play it every bank holiday as ritual when remembered. I'd also be tempted to call a future daughter Avaline

Better Man - Forgettable and I think there's a bit of a Liam bias coming out here with some. Fo' sheezy. It's solidly a 3/10; the worst album closer. Born on a Different Cloud
One of Liam's three contributions to 2002's Heathen Chemistry, this is a moody, woozy ode to his then infant son Lennon. Appropriately there are Lennon references ("Classless, clever and free" from Working Class Hero, "Busy working overtime" from Happiness is a warm gun) , and it's pretty Beatley (the bass and drum fills) while sounding more akin to the SOTSOG era than HC or DBTT. At 6:09 it's the 13th longest Oasis track (out of 137 included on this list). To my knowledge "Born on a different cloud" is a Liam original and quite a nice phrase; similarly "talking to myself again - this time I think I'm getting through" hits us in the right way. Johnny Marr's guitar work is fine, and it's also striking to hear Noel singing Liam's lyrics in the backing vocals over the last 1:40. It is too long though, and the lyrics don't really make sense (why say that his son is living on borrowed time? Does Liam plan to kill him?) - additionally Liam's rasp is largely unpleasant to hear: 5/10. Y'all?
