A thread for newer stuff that's floating around that doesn't quite fit in with the '2018 Albums' thread.
Mainly because there's this band called Black Midi who I've seen live a couple of times recently and they've been great. They're from Selhurst in SE TCOTU, I think. They have been tacked onto the whole 'New South TCOTU' scene over the last year or whatever and I kept seeing the name on bills for gigs at The Windmill in Brixton and those sorts of things, but they don't have any music or much of an online presence. But finally saw them supporting Shame and Ought in the last week or so and the blew me away.
They look about 16, four piece. Post Punky, but very intense and abrasive sounding. Weird rhythms and structures and time signatures, a little '154' era Wire and then elements of Talking Heads with more aggressive guitars. They just blew me and the rest of the bill away at both gigs. So check them oot..

This doesn't belong here, but does anybody knows who are these people? The picture is taken from the header of the twitter account of Newport Folk Festival. Thanks!

Not sure who that is Barns, sorry.
Really like this though:
Laid back neo-soul/hip-hop vibes from TCOTU based Irish artist 'Biig Piig'. This is from a recently released EP called 'Big Fan of the Sesh Vol.1'

Was going to put this in the 2018 Albums thread, and maybe I still will, but for now, it goes here...
Just listening to a band called The Naked Sun, and they're album, War With Shadows. It's all quite Americana (Tom Petty, Springsteen) but with a slightly more modern sheen. It might appeal to fans of The War On Drugs, or maybe Drive By Truckers...
This has been the highlight of album so far...

I've seen them a number of times now and they just get better. They're very impressive and it's hard to really pin point what they do, saw them twice over the last week and the set is now fully fleshed, feels like they have a proper album of material now. They've added a couple of slower brooding songs to the set over the last few months which definitely adds a different flavour to what they were doing. They sort of veer between post-punky stuff, elements of Jazz, Krautrock, Beefheart syncopation, there is a lot going on. It's now confirmed that they've signed to Rough Trade and I know Dan Carey is producing the album. On their recent tour they put out a 12" EP with one song 'Speedway', which is probably the most understated song in their set at the moment, backed with three remixes, you can listen here: This is also a good set, worth a watch: They also released a 30 minute live recording of them backing Damo Suzuki at the Windmill, which is also pretty great. You can listen on bandcamp: bmblackmidi.bandcamp.com/album/damo-suzuki-live-at-the-windmill-brixton-with-sound-carriers-black-midiAnyway, go and see them live.

Syncopation In music, syncopation involves a variety of rhythms which are in some way unexpected, making part or all of a tune or piece of music off-beat. More simply, syncopation is "a disturbance or interruption of the regular flow of rhythm": a "placement of rhythmic stresses or accents where they wouldn't normally occur."
Thank you for teaching me a new word Kevin.

That's fine, I didn't listen to Callum Easter because his name sounded like a Ross County left back.
