Who has been THE BEST
You KNOW I’ve been watching Eric Roberts 1989 classic for which he should have won an Oscar, and you KNOW I was undoubtedly going to make this thread to settle it once and for all.
This is about THE BEST OF THE BEST, not your favourite band, or artists. This isn’t about shoulda woulda coulda PUSSY bands with a couple of a shite hyped up albums who melted after being exposed to their first pint.
I’ll go for jack white, 183 songs released with the stripes, raconteurs, dead weather, and solo, he’s approaching Beatles / stones numbers. In terms of consistent output.
Anything he touches is either pretty good, good, or great.
I might come back later with some honourable mentions. Uh ma god babe.

I'd have to say Nick Cave No More Shall We Part, Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus & Skeleton Tree are all sensational. Push the Sky Away was excellent, Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! though feeling slightly throwaway for Cave was still lots of fun. Then both Grinderman records were a chaotic joy. Nocturama being his only under par release in this time. Not to forget a ton of successful film scores with Warren Ellis with a live act that IMO nobody is even close to. Though I agree with you regarding Roberts in best of the best, what a film

Nick Cave, Joanna Newsom and controversially on here The National, would be my picks for consistent high quality releases in that time period.

Are you following that Red Hand Files thing? It's been pretty fun so far and the other day he acknowledged Nocturama a bit.

I've read the occasional one, they've been interesting. I can't talk about Nick Cave anymore as I got my mum into him and she's become obsessed. My dad says "everytime I come from taking the dog out she's got that fucking Nick Cage on" She's so into him she wants a fucking B-side played at her funeral. Nick, why is it, do you think, that many of your fans are so critical of Nocturama? ANNE, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA
Nocturama is your worst record? Why? MIGUEL, PORTO, PORTUGAL
Nocturama? What the fuck?!! FADUMA, MOGADISHU, SOMALIA Dear Delilah, Anne, Miguel and Faduma,
Nocturama is held in such universal contempt that its very title has become a byword for failure or disaster. “He tried his best but ultimately he met his Nocturama,” you may hear someone say, or perhaps “What a complete and utter Nocturama!” As the years have passed, the disdain for this record has not diminished, and Nocturama has become just another word for ‘loser’ – as in “Fuck you, you fucking Nocturama!” and still it continues to this day, so that when a Bad Seeds fan gets poked in the eye or kicked in the nuts, they cry, “Nocturama!”
Therefore it comes as no surprise that many of the questions I have received on The Red Hand Files circle around the failings of this sad, brave, little record.
Personally, I like Nocturama. I like that it is out there, moving around the place and spoiling things. I like it that someone may accidently play it at a party and people start throwing up in the ashtrays. I like it that everyone stands upwind from it. I especially like it that of the sixteen records the Bad Seeds have produced we only have one Nocturama, whereas with some bands half their records are Nocturamas, and with most bands all of their records are Nocturamas.
I think that in the end we all need our Nocturamas. Your Nocturama may, indeed, be the most important thing you ever do. Failure fortifies us. It moves us forward. It strips everything back to its essential nature and leaves us clean and pure, ready to begin again. You don’t create something as problematic as Nocturama without a certain risk and a little courage and the temerity to fail. I love this troubled record for that. It may just be my favourite.
Much love to you all, Nick fair play

Wow, that made me imagine a Hollywood biopic where Nicholas Cage plays Nick Cave, it would be AMAZING
