We have already repeated this a few times but... his voice sounds really great nowadays

yep. he sounds much more relaxed with it. he doesn't need to sing his cock off anymore. actually, it sounds nowhere near as good when he does now and suits him less. my mum had radio 2 on and liam was on a couple of hours ago. he sang 'one of us' and sounded spot on. some cool female soul backing vocal outro too. i hope this album takes him from 70s fm rock to more forays into soul on his next effort. on the radio 2 interview he was also asked by a caller if he had any advice for his kids starting school (or something) and liam said "keep away from the pigeons" i keep banging on about it, but if could incorporate his personality and plucked-from-the-ether wit into his songs more (or at all), i'd be so fucking happy.

It can't just be cutting back on fags and booze that's got his voice to sound this good again. Must have had some sort of surgery in his time off.

Sunshine superman! That’s the one. I had inagadadavida (sp?) but I knew it was something else. That was driving me bonkers.

One listen on vinyl one-liners: 1) shockwave - it’s fine 2) one of us - I’d probably be wiping a tear away if I thought Liam wrote it, otherwise it kind of annoys me. 3) once - really grown on me 4) now that I’ve found you - it’s shit. 5) halo - and now it’s time for in the garden of eden by I. Ron butterfly, 6) why me why not? - best thing on the album Side 2 in a bit.

Had a better listen to it over the last few days, although I liked it anyway its definitely grown on me. Really like now that I've found you, halo (although I still not buying some of the cheesy lyrics) and the ones we'd heard before release are all fine. Alright now is cool. The rest haven't really grabbed me yet but the last one reminds me of last shadow puppets or pulp with the spoken word bit and strings

been hammering this the last few days. kinda stating the obvious but it sounds so much better on vinyl than the original leak.
anyway here's my quick track by track verdict...
shockwave - always liked this. great opener and i think i prefer it to wall of glass in terms of opening single from the album. still get big brmc vibes. 8.5
one of us - really didn't like this much when the single first came out and thought it was totally forgettable. grown on me loads since then and i'm a big fan now. solo ian brown meets late period verve innit. 8
once - loved this from first hearing the clip on as it was. im a sucker for a big ballad and this just has something magical about it. loses a point for the school/pool rhyme which always makes me wince a bit but otherwise what a tune. streets ahead of for what it's worth as the big soppy ballad single of the album. 9
now that i've found you - first "new" song when listening to the album and this made me sit up straight away on first listening. has the same care free breeziness to it that something like stay young does and liam sounds fucking great. yeah it's a bit cheesey and reminds me of mcfly or something but i fucking love it and have been humming it ever since friday. album is off to a fucking flying start. 9
halo - wasn't sure of this on first listen. felt a bit like a not so good version of bring the light to me. its grown since but to be fair i wouldn't care if i never heard it again. 6
why me why not - i enjoy the overall the vibe of this one and the chorus is real nice. 8
be still - dont think his vocals sound as good on this one, bit nasally. song is decent enough but not a standout for me. 6
alright now - this is growing on me lots. interesting instrumentation and decent lyrics. still dont totally love it but certainly on board with the sound. 7.5
meadow - sounds like the sort of song you'd go for a piss during if he played it live. not awful but total filler. 5.5
the river - sounds better in the context of the album than it did as a stand alone single. not the "too heavy for radio" tune he hyped it to be but i like the menace to it. 7.5
gone - i loved this on first listen but it's probably dropped down in my rankings with repeated listens. the spoken word bit is great but the chorus is lazy lyrically. i'm down with it overall but it's not worthy of best song of the album contender like i thought at first. 7.5
on average this comes out as a 7.5 for the album but i'll round it up to an 8 cos its fucking liam and it's bound to continue to grow. really happy with it as a continuation of his success from as you were. hope it sells well and he continues to smash the gigs and make noel look silly. my main criticism of the album would be that it's a bit top heavy for me. might just be my familiarity with the singles still at this stage but for me most of the big tunes come early doors and it sags a bit second half.
in terms of the bonus tracks...
invisible sun - alright. i find it quite forgettable though. 6
misunderstood - nice song albeit fairly predictable. got a bit of a soft spot for it though. 7.5
glimmer - my favourite from the bonus tracks. should be on the fucking album. the verses aren't even that good but what a fucking chorus. 8.5

I really am, genuinely and sincerely, loving this record. I've listened to it so much.
As You Were was a roaring and perhaps unexpected success, and there was a bit of a worry that Liam would stick to a tried and tested approach having experienced the success that As You Were brought. I thought we'd just get As You Were: Part 2, but with perhaps more attempts at some "stompers" that would be good but ultimately, a little plodding. I probably would've enjoyed that album but I wanted something a bit different from As You Were, and I think he has absolutely delivered.
Why Me Why Not has a really great vibe to it. It takes you on a bit of a ride from start to finish, exploring quite a lot of different styles, some completely new and fresh-sounding. Yes, there are some very obvious nods to his heroes and influences, but they're not cliche and embarrassing; I think they're done really well, and what we're left with is something with that is carefree and loose. Liam sounds great, and sounds like he's having a blast.
So yeah, that's where I'm at with Why Me Why Not. Loving it and pretty excited to see what comes next, however far off it may be.

Unfortuantley the sound quality for me was pretty shocking. The bass was louder than Liam's vocals, infact, the bass was the heaviest bass I've ever heard in my entire life, I immediately thought that my speakers were fucked, I stopped the record and played a couple of other albums (the latest sgt pepper remaster, and as you were), both albums sounded incredible. Pretty sure there is absolutely nothing wrong with my speakers, anyone else hearing the overpowering bass?

MEH-doh. 10) The river - it's a fine album track. 11) Gone - i'd have loved this without the spoken word bit. Was playing it in the car yesterday and my wife was actually snickering while it played. Haven't listened to the bonus tracks enough to form an opinion, but they didn't sink in much either. All in all...6 out of 10, maybe? 3 songs I really like, a couple that are pretty good and a bunch of filler that wouldn't be passable as a DBTT b-side. (shrugs)
