The single's released so far have done absolutely nothing.
the promotion in comparison to "AYW" has been dog shit so far, "once" has come and gone like a shit fart.
Let's hope the unplugged performance + friday's song can kickstart something.

It's only been one single hasn't it? No video for "Once" - does it count as a single?

I'm not 100% sure Lino, my understanding in this day and age is that anything that gets released on a digital platform prior to an album being released qualifies as a single. Maybe someone can explain this better than me.
UK Charts currently show:
Shockwave: peak position: 22 Once: peak position: 49 River: failed to chart
Shockwave was available as a digital purchase, streaming, and vinyl + a video Once was available as a digital purchase, streaming, no vinyl and no video Not sure about the river.
Liam's management have referred to all three as "singles".
Its all too complicated for me.

But Ax, does anybody really care about chart positions anymore? The singles are just promotional tools to make people buy the record, the record is just a promotional tool to make people pay for the tour & Liam's tour pretty much sold out in a day or so. You could argue that it would have without a new album but that's where the money is these days

Even Noel's releasing a bunch of EP's when the format has always been seen as commercial suicide.

You could argue that it would have without a new album but that's where the money is these days Don't really care about chart positions, I was just using them to confirm that liam has indeed released more than one official single. I do like things in black and white though, and I do think a lot of people care about singles, the lack of uniformity must drive them a little bit mad as there are now so many formats/platforms, the problem is compounded further by having no clarity from the record company as to what is an official single and what isn't, why is one single available on vinyl, and why is the other single not available on vinyl? why are there videos with some singles, and no videos with others, it's like when you buy a pack of sausages, some sausages are suitable for freezing and others aren't what the fuck is that all about - you WONT believe the chaos this creates in my kitchen. furthermore, I spent a shit load of money on a Vinyl player 2 years ago, as I assumed this had now replaced the CD player. You should see my set up, its a gigantic monstrosity, I might as well have a forklift truck in my living room, I've used it about three times and its gathering dust, I've also stuck a lampshade on one my speakers, it looks fucking awful, clearly I've been let down massively by the criminal tricks of the industry.

Well he released a 7" single of Shockwave with no B-side so it begs the question, what's the point? Might as well just buy the record & be done with it.
Shame you've not got use out of your record player. I love putting on a record and relaxing in the armchair with a book like an old cunt.

Do you not find the experience of waiting for a song or album to drop on your phone empty as fuck though? Come friday, liam's new song gets released, It'll arrive on my phone at noon, and I'll end up listening to it in my car at lunch time. Even waiting up all night for album leaks wasn't as empty as this. I do like my record player, but the empty instant experience of the song/album being made available through my phone is killing it for me. I guess I'm just complaining about the overall state of music along with my lack of discipline. Edit: I don't actually know what the fuck im I'm on about tbh, as even waiting for the leaks was an act of seeking something instant. Must be a getting old thing, god knows.

Yes & no. TBH I stopped buying CDs in 2007 and have mostly been a pirate ever since. I get excited for new records, but the excitement I used to get when Oasis was doing something new isn't ever going to be replicated, when you're young & a band/artist obsesses you to the point where them doing a new record or a gig is the most exciting thing you can imagine. I don't have that sort of feeling anymore because I'm old, cynical & have been there & done that. Of course there is something to be said about putting a record on for the first time, cracking it open, reading the sleeve notes and being consumed by what it has to offer, but at £20 a pop, I'd rather sample it for a few weeks then decide if I want to buy it. I'd never blind buy say a Primal Scream record these days because chances are it isn't going to be something I'll be in a rush to hear again.
Though that's where I'm at with buying records now, I only buy my absolute favourites unless I see second hand stuff going dirt cheap.
There's a lot to be gained & lost in how we all consume music now. I'm happy to simply listen & sample 100s of records a year & just buy the ones that really stand out to me. Plus I don't have the space to have an enormous collection so I have to be picky.

clyp.it/exelxhmmPerhaps the most mehh track out of Shockwave, The River & Once. I mean, it's very light and airy and kind of just breezes along but not sure there's really anything memorable about it.

Pretty underwhelming.
my current ratings:
1) shockwave - 6/10 2) Once - 6.5/10 3) River - 6.5/10 4) One of us - 5.5/10
After reading about the video, I was expecting a little bit of an emotional punch, this track does nothing and contains over a minute of "heeeey's"

This album seems to be 95% Andrew Wyatt, 5% LG. It's a Miike Snow track, nothing more, nothing less.

Yeah One of Us is totally forgettable. Slightly worrying that it's deemed worthy enough to be a single.
