When you make John Squire look like the reasonable one....
So in the last week, Noel, Ian and Van Morrison have all turned out to be (or at least reconfirmed themselves as) fucking idiots. Not a great week for my record collection.

loving this new tune from aussie shoegazers flyying colours. anything that is completely derivative of the 90s normally ticks all the boxes for me.

Stay on the topic plz JP, this thread is now exclusively for laughing at Browno.
I’m not surprised in the slightest he’s an anti-masker. He’s always had that slightly unhinged, everything’s a conspiracy vibe to him. But 20 years ago when he was telling us NASA is just a big neocon Cold War project, it was at least entertaining.
That new track is so, so bad. Even if you ignore the lyrics. Imagine going from having Squire and Aziz backing you to that.

It took me ages to warm to it. The first two were so immediate, that at first I was disappointed. But with time I loved it.

I honestly thought the Flaming Lips was REALLY bland. It feels like they're trying to return to their commercial peak in terms of style, yet haven't wrote any memorable tunes... plus I know Wayne has never exactly been a great lyricist.. but fucking hell, I cringed so many times. I've liked the occasional track or two from their various projects in recent years but it has been well over 10 years now since Embryonic which their last excellent record. Think I'm done with them as a recording band now, I'll still go see them live again no doubt.
Enjoying the new Doves record, it sounds.. like Doves. Almost as if they never went away. New Bill Callahan record is nice. Really enjoying a couple of collaboration records: first is from Archie Shepp, Raw Poetic & Damu the Fudgemunk. It's Jazz-rap, though more of a straight up jazz record with some rapping thrown in. Cool record. Then there's "Dinner Party", a neo-soul/jazz-funk/instrumental hip hop thing with Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, 9th Wonder & Kamasi Washington. Unfortunately it only lasts just over 20 minutes.

I'll be honest, i've not bothered tuning in to listen to the lyrics on the latest Flaming Lips, but for me it sounds beautiful. I had read elsewhere though that the lyrics were iffy.
