Last year, I dived into and was consumed by the Guided By Voices back catalogue. This year, I decided to take the plunge with Pink Floyd and noticed we didn't have an actual thread on them. In terms of albums, Dark Side of The Moon is the only thing I've really ever spent any time with. Then there's some of the big songs I'm familiar with; Another Brick In The Wall, Wish You Were Here, Money, High Hopes. But I've never really took the plunge.
But 2020 is the year, and while I'm on this journey of discovery, I'm interested to know what you guys think about them, and what albums/songs you like/love. If I'm not mistaken, axl is a big fan? But what about everyone else?
So yeah, spending quite a bit of time with The Piper At The Gates of Dawn this week, which I've gotta say, I'm really enjoying. Quintessentially British while also sounding very alien and otherworldly. I can imagine it was a real experience hearing this for the first time back in the 60s. So far, I'm really loving:
Astronomy Dormine Lucifer Sam (it reminds me of something GBV did) Matilda Mother Interstellar Overdrive The Gnome
Tell iz your thoughts on Pink Floyd, m8's.

Still a massive fan tucker
I'd rate the albums as follows:
Piper at the gates of dawn (1967) - 7/10
A saucerful of secrets (1968) - 7.5/10 - less consistent than the first album, but gets a higher rating purely because of Syd's "Jugband blues" one of the most haunting songs I've heard.
More - can't really rate this as an album as it was done as a soundtrack for an obscure 60's film - "green is the colour" and "cymbaline" are two classic early floyd songs.
Ummagumma (1969) - A pointless experimental album that goes nowhere - 1/10
Atom Heart Mother (1970) - 7/10
Meddle (1971) - 9/10
Obscured by Clouds (1972) - 6.5/10
Dark Side of the moon (1973) - 10/10
Wish you were here (1975) - 10/10
Animals (1977) - 10/10
The Wall (1979) - 10/10
The final cut (1983) - 10/10
A momentary lapse of reason (1987)- 5/10
The division bell (1994)- 6.5/10
The endless river (2014)- 5/10

Comfortably numb is a tune. everything else is worse than hitler. This post proves that you haven't listened to any of their songs. Comfortbaly numb isnt even a top 20 floyd song. Idiot.

Some big numbers from the ax man. I like them but other than dark side and wywh and various other picks I've never felt the need to delve further. Those 2 albums are great though

It’s one of the biggest cliches in music, but the Floyd genuinely turned to shit when they got rid of Syd.
Vegetable Man, Jugband Blues, Lucifer Sam... all of these songs still sound cutting edge 50 years after they were recorded. I would struggle to say the same about anything Roger thingy wrote

I'm a big fan of their Syd era and even some of the stuff that came out after I like, but my god are they boring chaps these two are...

Never could get into Pink Floyd - I think I hated the songs that ended up on radio so I always said fuck them.
