Never took notice of her. Seen lots of raving about her new album so checked it out and it sounded pretty good; interesting. Decided to go back and listen to her other stuff starting with Tidal.
Wasn't overly keen at first but it's really grew on me, favourite tracks being Sleep To Dream, Shadowboxer and Criminal.
What's everyone's opinion of her? Favourite album? Most loved tracks?
Tell iz like, m8s.

I've never gone back to her early releases, find them too mainstream and polished but of course I can be wrong. A couple years ago I fell in love with The Idler Wheel after having enjoyed Every Single Night since its release.
The new one is amazing imo, also getting lots of attention which is nice (probably too much). It was interesting reading the Vulture and New Yorker profiles building some hype, then all exploding after lockdown. 10 on Pitchfork, 100 on Metacritic, top300 on rym... A hermit releasing a record made using the house as an instrument is too good to be true right now.
So The Idler Wheel is still my favourite but this one might surpass it with time.

New ones very good, not sure if it's as good as the critics seem to think but either way, really enjoying it.
Only ever heard one other of her records I think, don't know much about her tbh. I always get her, Liz Phair & Tori Amos mixed up.

i was speaking with a mate about this and we concluded that she is quite a good case of american exceptionalism.
saying that, the album is really good, fresh and unique. she has a way of emerging from the cosmic verbal knots she ties herself up in with something memorable, funny or insightful. essentially, she is quite a gem of an artist and i think it'll be fairly high up my list this year. i'm sure that if I allow it to, it will grow quite a lot. Although I don't think it's the sort of album I will listen to often enough, it needs more groove for that tbh.

I gotta love the way she's not preachy at all and handles all those heavy themes with lots of witticism and humour
