I don't think it's the worst thing he's released but I am not a big fan of it.
I've never listened to a Noel solo album from start to finish and tried this morning with his debut and I just couldn't do it. I guess knowing the majority were left over Oasis songs and Sardy producing it.. it just sounded pure shite. Hollow and dull.
I think the second album is the best of the three, even though one of the tracks is a very old pre-fame (?) composition, "Lock all the doors", and a re-recorded SOTSOG-era demo "Revolution Song" appears as a bonus track/b-side.
More concerning is that it was pretty well known by midnight in North America that he’d died. Which would have been 5 or 6AM in Manchester. On Tuesday morning.
Now, I’ve only been watching European soccer since 1990, so things might have been different in 1980, but I find it hard to believe there’d have been a game on at 7 in the morning on a Tuesday.
This song seem to be a nod to a certain 80s cheesy Euro-pop, but without fully committing to that sound, that aesthetic. Unfortunately Noel has only one speed, and that is "dad rock".
Listened to 2 mins of it, which is further than I usually get with his songs. Didn’t sound too bad compared to what he’s brought out the past few years.
Everybody's On The Run: first of fuck you Dave Sardy, but this is a great tune, the violins bit at the end is simply beautiful. Though this is one of the few Noel solo tunes on here where it just screams: LIAM. (I'd love to hear Liam on all songs though, even or especially the EP songs) Black Star Dancing, This Is The Place: are actually pretty good (listening for the first time on good speakers). Their videos (which Ive seen once or twice) completely rubbish. Flying On The Ground: one of his best solo songs, if released in Oasis (most likely as a b-side), it would have been hailed as classic. Simple, nice production (for a change FFS), the horns. Great Summer Vibes. If I Had A Gun.... yes, its Noel by numbers, but the stripped down version shows its potential. And again, fuck you Dave Sardy.
-: the na na na na (ITHOFTM) nonsense Where's: While The Song Remains The Same, Alone On The Rope, Sail On, The Right Stuff, The Man Who Built The Moon (album)?

I've been listening to the compilation over the past few days too - it's a decent set of songs on disc one at least, but I'll never understand the appeal of "What a life" or "It's a beautiful world".
Wandering Star is missing, as are Fort Knox, She taught me how to fly, Black and White sunshine, and If love is the law.
