I'm always on the lookout for great single tracks by different artists so I'll share the ones I dig here. I'm not very good at presenting entire albums but one song at a time I think I can still manage. I'll start with a track that is near and dear to my heart because it's a slice of Italian culture OSCAR PRUDENTE - STADIUM (1977) country: Italy style: Soundtrack, Funk
Stadium is a tune most Italians know because it was the soundtrack for Domenica Sprint, a Sunday football programme that aired for many years. Prudente (who played guitar and drums for a number of relevant Italian acts) was asked to put together an opening tune for this sports programme, and he simply recruited the musicians who were 'passing by' that day at the recording studio. He got lucky because these were some of the most talented musicians our country had to offer at that time, all of whom were active in different jazz/soundtrack/prog-rock projects. The track was intended to simulate a stadium chant, I'm sure you'll all recognise the drumbeat, which is heard in every stadium in the universe and apparently comes from a 1962 song by The Routers called Let's Go (although how that beat got to the stadium stands I don't know!). The vocals, again made to emulate the many voices you hear at the stadium, were recorded by the secretaries of the recording studios shouting random stuff. The only intelligible thing you can hear in this mess is "Viva viva il Goleador". But most of all the track has a KILLER FUNK GROOVE & A SUPER CATCHY WAH WAH GUITAR This is really a piece of Italy, I hope you like it

Oh, love this thread, I'll use it to recommend you a tune by that long haired metal weirdo you tried to shame me with!
Also, what do you think of 'Guarda come dondolo'? Heard it yesterday on Master of None and quite liking it...

Christ, that is ringing an incredibly small bell in the back of my mind. I'm pretty sure I watched that show a few times in the brief period I lived in Italy in 1990, despite not understanding anything they said beyond "maradona" and city names.

What's your story?! But yeah it's very likely you have watched the show, which was superpopular and also the only way to watch the football highlight reels every sunday this is a random episode that aired in January 1990 - it has everything: the song, the city names and Maradona

Heard it yesterday on Master of None and quite liking it... first, it's not my fault if you listen to a metal leprechaun who once took a shit in the woods and decided to release a 20 minutes concept album based on it. I'm sure there's a lot more stuff like this hidden in the depths of your RTM, I just have to find it. What do I think of Guarda Come Dondolo? It's a song from the early 60s, everything at that time had to be danceable, everything had to be a twist. Even today it is played in country fairs and day centres for elderly people, so that grandmas can get up and dance. It was mostly entertainment music. What do you think of Stadium though? Do you like it?

Not bad but the truth is that drum pattern is too distracting and anti-groovie, but it might be me

I was probably the only kid in rome whose two favourite teams were Milan and Samp.

You're a sly dog SRK. All these years and we're now only scratching the surface. What else don't we know? We have a right to know.

Funky, I dig this. If I ever get around to doing another Instagram DJ session this is going on there
Been listening to a ton of soul/funk/reggae/afrobeat and a bit of Brazilian music lately so have been finding some real gems.
This one comes from Ike Turner & The Kings of Rhythm instrumental funk record from 69.. "A Black Man's Soul". This track hit me straight away because it has been sampled on two of my all-time favourite hip hop tunes Snake Eyes by Main Source & Concrete Schoolyard by Jurassic 5.

You're a sly dog SRK. All these years and we're now only scratching the surface. What else don't we know? We have a right to know. Tbf, I'm pretty sure I mentioned that years ago when I was forced to defend my honour as a "pre-oasis" city fan.*** My enduring memory of Italia '90 was being mildly annoyed after every Italian victory, because the horns would be honking incessantly all night. And then when Maradona and Argentina knocked Italy out in the semis, I went out on the balcony and heard....utter silence. It was incredible. ***Following our 6 months in Rome, we spent 3 years on a Canadian military base in germany, which included a 1-week school trip to Cantebury (because we were reading 'a cantebury tales' in english class, because of course.) That was where I discovered the english soccer, which I at that time only knew of peter shilton's perm and gazza crying, both from Italia '90. We were having lunch at (I assume) a pub and there was a random game on the TV between City and Blackburn. I liked city's shirt and the slab-headed tall Irish guy playing forward, and 30 years later, here we are. (Fun fact about my 6 months in Italy that I only just discovered recently: I went to the same school that Mussolini's (FAKEEDIT: GREAT) grandson goes to now.)
