Trying to find out everybody's favorite songs that weren't directly on a group/musicians album. You can include alternative takes of studio album tracks etc.
It still amazes me that this wasn't included on the second album. Are they keeping it for a future release? I'm not sure but it is surely one of the best songs they have done.
I often wonder how great the second La's album would have been. This is one of my favorite songs period.
They named the album The Guest but somehow the title track got kept off of the release and was included on a bonus CD. I am not a big fan of Phantom Planet but I really like this song.
I'll add some more as I go. I didn't include any Oasis (specifically b-sides as I think the list would be just too great lol)

he could have saved this for the first style council record. dig some of those early phonics b sides. i know it's a cover (they pinched bits all over the place anyway ) but the original don't sound nothing like this (didn't turn up on cd until 1990 or was it bbc sessions release?)

Much better version then what is on album.
I can't even begin to talk about First Impression of Earth. That album could have been 100x better if they cut down on the bloated tracks.

Everytime I listen to that album I think to myself "fucking hell, this is so much better than I remember" for the first 5 songs then by the end wish I hadn't bothered. Probably a great 35 min record in there for sure.

Agreed! I could never get through the full thing these days. It def has about 35 mins of good music that would have made a great 3rd album

I read a Paul Weller interview in Q once which he said he listened to Razorblade 5 times on repeat on the journey in. Such a huge tune. Second half of the album is piss though.

Nibelungen by Nico
This first surfaced as a bonus track for the early-90s CD issue of The Marble Index, in its vocal-only form. Years later a full version (with John Cale's trademark layers of bagpipe/organs/whatever) was released on a compilation. Not sure which one is better, but Nico had that kind of voice and character that yes, she could make a vocal only track sound full and musical...in a word, phenomenal. Why the hell would you scrap a song like that is a mystery.
