Stocky- that Geese album is decent on first listen. Not sure how I missed it first time round. Yeah there seems to not be much buzz about them at all. I heard a song played on 6music which I instantly loved and decided to take a listen to the album. Absolutely bloody love them, to me they are the sweet spot between stokesy NY indie pop and elements of this new wave of bands from south TCOTU. Was surprised to see Pitchfork give them a measly 6.6

Stocky- another little gem you've uncovered there in the Shire T album. I can find virtually nothing about them though.
It's like a retrospective of every good house music style from the early 90s onwards. It should sound cheesy but it's absolutely nailed it. I wanna break out the molly!

Yeah that Shire T is a belter, criminally underlooked.
Shire T is one half of the fairly well known electronic duo Maribou State who are also well worth delving into.

Was surprised to see Pitchfork give them a measly 6.6 I felt that was the main issue for me, like artificially trying to join two cool bandwagons at once. It works on some spots plus they're pretty young so, although I can see them becoming quite great soon, I felt ambivalent about it. I've swallowed too many Strokes pastiches and the Windmill scene mostly leaves me cold, so take it all with a pinch of salt.

20: Squid - New Long LegOne of my most anticipated record of the year. I loved the earlier singles/EP's so expectations were stupidly high with this. I ended up a little disappointed, don't get me wrong, it's a bloody good record with some insanely good highlights. But at the same time I find there to be some real pacing issues on here. I'm fine with them dragging songs out, getting experimental and having interludes, but as a whole LP start to finish it just never flows as well as it probably should. Had I not seen Squid perform live a bunch over the past few years & this was some random band I'd discovered then this record would probably be higher on my list, but expectations can be a bitch sometimes. Still, excited to see where they go next, they're a hell of a band. LOL YOU SURE ABOUT THAT ALBUM TITLE BRUV

Hi, I'm Columbia_rocks_man and this is my end of year list for 2021. Token old album I got into last year that three other forum members might enjoyThe Pretty Things - Parachute (1970) One of those bands that anyone with a passing interest in the '60s beat explosion will have heard of, even if it's just a few random tracks. S.F. Sorrow (the one with the incredible Baron Saturday, ripped off several times by Dwayne) is their best known LP, but for me Parachute surpasses it. The seamless melodic flow between the opening tracks is honestly breathtaking - if Lennon and McCartney had written them, they'd be hailed as classics. Thank me when you listen to this great album and immediately fall in love with it. Live music only resumed in Jockland in September and was promptly shut down again in December, so I only managed half a dozen shows, including a one-day festival. Squid were the best new band I saw, while I was surprised at how good The Libertines featuring Big Pete still are. Single of the year has to be Second Time by the Goa Express I very much enjoyed EPs by Pozi and Yard Act. ALBUMZ20. St Vincent - Daddy's Home19. Nick Cave, Warren Ellis - Carnage18. The Go! Team - Get Up Sequences Part One17. Self Esteem - Prioritise PleasureIt's the sound of Guardian columnists set to music! 16. DJ Format - Devil's WorkshopGood fun. 15. Buffet Lunch - The Power of RocksNo, not an album released by the guy who deleted the last forum! 14. Vince Staples - s/tUnderrated, this. 13. Orions Belte - Villa AmoriniThe kind of thing Babu would enjoy. 12. Django Django - Glowing in the DarkAnother consistently great album no one on the forum will listen to. 11. Shame - Drunk Tank PinkI started the year hating this record then grew to quite like it. Then I saw them live for the first time in years and remembered what a prick the singer is. 10. Blanck Mass - In FerneauxBIG. Like, 20-min long tracks big. 9. Clinic - Fantasy IslandThe three best bands from Liverpool are Clinic, The La's and Frankie Goes To Hollywood. In that order. 8. Paris Texas - Boy AnonymousThis is a tremendous LP. Yet I haven't seen any of the forum heads mention it. Thank me later. 7. Slowthai - TyronThis came out so long ago it feels like it's been around for years. 6. Sleaford Mods - Spare RibEventually they'll become a full parody of themselves, but Andrew's beats make this. 5. Parquet Courts - Sympathy For LightsAn album beloved of me and my good friend Karl Mahoney. 4. Squid - Bright Green FieldA band the Soapbox can all agree on :handshakeemoji: 3. Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be IntrovertA genuinely great album, it was in contention for my number one slot, but it loses points for being too long (over an hour, in the streaming age?) and a bit unfocused in places. The spoken word interludes are just cringe. But when this slaps, it slaps hard. I've enjoyed everything she's released so I look forward to more. 2. Tyler, the Creator - Call Me If You Get LostIn my mind, the most consistently exciting solo artist around atm. His albums are always top quality, good fun and full of surprises. Some people can't stick DJ Drama, but I think it works over the piece. 1. Callum Easter - SystemIt's common for certain Soapbox members to latch on to an artist from their local area and overhype them well beyond their actual talent. And I am one of those Soapbox members! I also genuinely love Callum Easter's music - he's a literal one man band who has created a sound like nothing else. This album is more immediate than his last - the songs are all short, sharp shocks with some bittersweet moments. It's never going to sell millions, but let's hear it for the forum's favourite Ross County full-back!
