I love Neil but half of what he does makes no sense. He had his stuff on streaming platforms years ago, then he removed everything when he opened his Archive website. Then he sold half of the rights of his entire catalogue and his music reappeared on general streaming platforms. Now he wants it removed again - but half of his music is not his...??
I don't even understand what the issue is now, but if you want democracy then you have to accept the fact that there's going to be people with a different opinion than yours and they will promote it, exactly like you promote yours.
It's not a competition, and I love Neil's music more than, say, Dylan's, but Bob Dylan is so much better at handling non-music related controversies - by not causing any of them and simply doing his thing...

Neil is absolutely in my personal pantheon, but I've been convinced for decades that he's somewhere on the low end of the spectrum, and he ends up becoming obsessed by odd things (toy trains, electric cars, shitty sound quality of mp3s etc) and doesn't necessarily think that strategically about some of the stuff he does. Oftentimes, that leads to great stuff. Other times, it leads to Pono.
I understand what he's trying to do here, but that dipshit rogan makes way too much money for spotify to even bat an eyelash about "losing Neil".

“I’ve decided to remove all my music from Spotify. Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives. I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue.” —Joni Mitchell, January 28, 2022

Pono was ahead of its time, lossless streaming audio is the shiny new toy of Amazon, Apple, and has been on Tidal for years. Pono as a medium to deliver it was silly though, but he was correct about audio quality. As for Young and Rogan, you can't decry Young for supporting censorship, but then get angry at him for voicing his opinion. Frankly, Rogan, is an idiot, he peddled a lot of bullshit during the pandemic and if someone takes a stand against that, great. Rogan being kicked off a platform, is not censorship, censorship, is probably too strong of a word, he isn't be censored by the state, he is being punished by a private corporation and being released from his contact. At that point he is free to sign with another medium that is more inline with his views.

I read a headline that spotify lost 4bn in market value in the aftermath of Young's comments.
Admittedly I didn't dig deeper so don't know how much of that was as a result of the comments and how much was just market fluctuation.

My wife told me I should cancel my Spotify and go back to Apple music.
TBF, I do like Apple's interface better but I am lazy to try and remove spot from my Alexa and Google Home and try pair it with Apple music. EUGH - I hate technology (I must be getting old).

I dumped Spotify about a year ago in favour of Tidal for the better sound quality (got some better earphones) and cos they pay the artists more. And they have more music.
Oh, and spotify are funding AI military weaponry or something like that.
I think the only advantage of spotify these days is that they got in early, so the majority use it and if you're into sharing playlists it's good for that reason.
Get switching chief.

Graham Nash has removed his stuff now as well.
All the old geezers are moving on.

Since they are all leaving, they should show us the receipts they get from Spotify, so we know how much money they are saying no to. I don't see any of them making more than a few hundred quid a month from Spotify. Maybe they make a minimum wage...combined. So stop acting like it's some kind of big social statement.
I am all for artists leaving Spotify, but using this stupid controversy as a scapegoat is just hippie bullshit. Fucking hippies, they should all have been shot at Altamont.
