Okay lads here's THE LIST - time to get your knickers in a twist! I have selected 48 albums that will participate in the tournament. 16 of them are Staples: they are basically albums that are universally recognised for being the best of the 60s by soapboxers, music critics, RYM etc. Some of them, you've picked in the polls. Some I've picked myself for you, thank you very much. THE STAPLES:
01. The Beatles - Abbey Road 02. The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed 03. The Kinks - The Village Green Preservation Society 04. Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde 05. Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica 06. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico 07. The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds 08. Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced? 09. The Doors - The Doors 10. Love - Forever Changes 11. Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left 12. Frank Zappa - Hot Rats 13. Neil Young with Crazy Horse - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere 14. John Coltrane - A Love Supreme 15. Miles Davis - In a Silent Way 16. Charles Mingus - The Black Saint & The Sinner Lady Here comes the fun part. I've selected 32 more albums and matched them by genre, country, city or other. These will battle first head-to-head. The 16 winners will join the 16 Staple albums, and all of the 32 will be scrambled and matched up randomly, until only one remains: 17. King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King v 18. Amon Düül - Phallus Dei 19. Small Faces - Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake v 20. Cream - Disraeli Gears 21. Leonard Cohen - Songs of Leonard Cohen v 22. The Band - Music from Big Pink 23. Sly & Family Stone - Stand! v 24. James Brown - Live at the Apollo 25. Otis Redding - Otis Blue: Sings Soul v 26. Wilson Picket - The Exciting Wilson Pickett 27. The 13th Floor Elevators - The Psychedelic Sounds of... v 28. Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn 29. Nico - Marble Index v 30. Tim Buckley - Happy Sad 31. The Stooges - The Stooges v 32. MC5 - Kick Out the Jams 33. Van Morrison - Astral Weeks v 34. Alexander 'Skip' Spence - Oar 35. Scott Walker - Scott 4 v 36. Dusty Springfield - Dusty in Memphis 37. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin 2 v 38. Blue Cheer - Outsideinside 39. The Zombies - Odessey and Oracle v 40. The Pretty Things - S.F. Sorrow 41. Jorge Ben - Jorge Ben (1968) v 42. Os Mutantes - Os Mutantes 43. The Butterfield Blues Band - East - West v 44. The Byrds - Younger than Yesterday 45. Pharoah Sanders - Karma v 46. Sonny Rollings - The Bridge 47. The Sonics - Here Are the Sonics!! v 48. The Monks - Black Monk TimeGlaring omissions: in order to compile these lists, I have used the lists published on this forum in the last 12 years, RYM ratings of forum members (when available), other sources like Allmusic and (my) common sense in general. I tried to span multiple genres instead of sticking only with the classic British-American rock'n'roll. Also, this is a list of ALBUMS, not bands with amazing singles but mediocre albums that deserve an honorary mention. Understand that we couldn't have polls to determine one albums for each of these artists - not with an average of 8 active voters per thread, most of whom only care for the albums they already know and don't want to give a chance to something they don't. I hope your favourite albums are in there, somewhere.

It's a decent list tbf.
A couple on there I don't know and look forward to trying (Alexander 'Skip' Spence and The Butterfield Blues band).
But come on, No Nina, No Aretha? Gotta represent the best ladies to ever do it. Both ten times more deserving than Nico and she'sthe only woman on the list you nasty Italian mysoginist.

I had long considered adding them both, but I've tried to represent every genre that people on here (and out of here) seem to enjoy, including US garage (hence The Sonics and The Monks), or experimental songwriters (Tim Buckley, Nico) and pair albums with at least a hint of a theme. There's soul, funk, Detroid, Canada, Brazil, early prog, early heavy rock, baroque pop... We could still add them if more people really want them, I don't mind, but we have to remove one of the tiers, there's only so many spots available for the playoffs to work. Let's see what the other folks say.

How many more match ups would be needed to make it work for more options. Could consider Barny's idea of each picking a wild card? You got yours in The Byrds and Scott Walker, which weren't included in my initial 32-item list. Hence why I had to expand it to 48. Personally I'm good with the list as is, although it doesn't include a ton of my favourite albums. We already know the three or four albums who are likely going to win, so adding more and more stuff just for representation purposes would turn this into an unbearable slog. This is meant to be a pointless fun game and an excuse to fill some of the holes in our collections, it is not for life. Let's see what the other folks have to say though.

I think it's very difficult to argue with TitchJuicy's logic.
The poll should definitely include 4 Byrds, 4 Scott Walker, 2 Nina Simone, 2 Aretha Franklin, 2 Lonnie Donegan, 3 Benny Hill and two of whatever Barny's having albums.

Are you just taking the piss? A 3.5 from Barny = a near masterpiece. He’s a harsh critic A 3.5 from JP means, well, he gives everything 3.5 stars!!

I am content with the choices made for this epic tournament
I think by the nature of this board that things like jazz and soul won’t be treated too well. I’d have been happy for just a ROCK list but still. Let’s push things forward & make sure Abbey Road is knocked out early doors!

We know it's gonna be an Abbey Rd vs Pet Sounds final, but it's fun seeing who they knock out along the way...and those they knock out should be the best of the rest - which objectively includes Nina and Aretha. How anyone fool can think that Nico album trumps either of them is well, a fool.
But as flawed as this poll is, I will grudgingly listen to the will of the people and play my part. Sorry Barny brother, I tried.

Allmusic rates both of those Shins records higher than the Nico record.

Titch, so far you haven't contributed anything to these polls, except complaining because a 1975 album wasn't included in a 1960s thread, stating you can't be bothered giving an artist a listen if you don't already like it, and bitching and moaning like a big baby until you have things done your way.
Just don't vote, I don't give a shit.

Well, i've voted in most of them and discussed my choices in some of them. If you can't handle a little constructive crticism don't start crying son. Your list ain't perfect, you've acted like you're the last word on 60s music and you've missed some obvious contenders. That's just fact.
Any criticism i've given has been backed up. You're the one that's turned to bitchy comments. Not everyone has to agree with everything. Fuck me that'd be boring.
Yeah, i misread a title hence the Blood on The Tracks comments.

Says the man who's been bitching a moaning like a big baby even if things are done his way ffs If you weren't Italian I'd believe all this would be a great idea to wind up people and achieve longer threads
