Where do I start? I know nothing about Iggy Pop - I always figured he was kind of gimmicky or something. I always over looked him.
I recently heard The Passenger (yes, I must have been living under a rock) and to me it almost sounds like The Babies/Kevin Morby so I was instantly hooked.
Recommend an album.

The original 3 Stooges records + the first two Iggy solo records are literally five of the best records ever made. Personally I'd say go for The Idiot & Fun House first, but you can't go wrong with any of them.
I'd tread carefully after that, but records like New Values, Zombie Birdhouse & Kill City are all worth investigating, but only once you've heard his earlier stuff.

I'd go for Lust For Life first, considering the Kevin Morby mention which is a bit weird anyway. Then Raw Power because, you know, it's Raw Power

Morby is one of the most languid singers and that might be one of the most languid performances by Iggy. If that is the vibe you are looking for then maybe head to The idiot, but wrong artist nonetheless

Fun House is the definitive Stooges album and anyone who claims it’s Raw Power is just plain wrong. Ron Asheton playing bass is not what the Stooges were about.
Solo Iggy can be boiled down to Lust For Life and The Idiot. They are both incredible albums in their own right. If you enjoy them, try the singles he released late 70s up to the mid 80s. There’s some great stuff but also a lot of dudds.

Everything everyone has said is correct. But I'd add, in recent years, I really liked Post Pop Depression. Collab with Josh Homme and the drummer from Arctic Monkeys. It's a bit out there, but some cool tunes on there.
