AKA THE BATTLE OF WHITE/BLUE EYED SOUL/POP/WHATEVER Scott Walker - Scott 4 (1969) vs Dusty Springfield - Dusty in Memphis (1969) Once again two albums from the very tail end of the 60s, this time we venture into a more soul/baroque territory. Both as requested by forum members. You have the usual five days to take your pick and make your case. Have fun.

Scott 4 easily.
I don’t rate Dusty in Memphis at all. If it had been made by a black women it would have been completely forgotten about by now. It’s the moment where she begs to be taken seriously & is completely exposed as being second rate. A fine pop-soul artist, many great songs but please, it’s laughable that anyone would choose Dusty in Memphis over the 100s of better soul artists/records of the late 60s.
The trouble is, poor journalism over the years has helped glorify this as some kind of essential soul record, the kind of lazy journalism that only allows room for the same dozen soul records to ever be talked about & treated with the same respect as music made by rock musicians. Listen with your ears, Dusty in Memphis is like listening to Florence + the Machine over Kate Bush, Phil Collins over The Supremes, The Jesus Abyss over Brian Eno.
Go fuck yourself Dusty & all that wank over your mediocrity.

No contest. I do like Dusty Springfield, but this is not a fair match up.

But this is a no brainer as Scott 4 is one of music's finest achievements, ever.
