More light was stunning. They had no right to be that good at that point in their career. Chaosmosis was patchy but had 4 excellent songs.
New album is out soon, and good lord, the two new songs I’ve heard sound absolutely terrible. Has anyone listened?

The new songs are awful, but I tend to think the same of all their recent singles, then the album comes out and it's always much better than I had anticipated. I had zero faith in More Light from the early singles and it turned out being one of their best records to date. Chaosmosis also wasn't half bad. You can never tell with this band.
By the way axl, did you listen to their BBC Sessions LP from last year? I still have it on repeat.

I did, enjoyable listen, and I don’t mind sonic flower groove at all.
I also really enjoyed the original Memphis recordings of give out but don’t give up.

I'd like to apologise, I relistened to the new single DEEP DARK WATERS and I think it's one of the best things they've done in a decade.

Love Insurrection might be the best track they’ve ever made. This from someone that doesn’t like Primal Scream at all, so you might wanna take that with a pinch of salt.

To be truthful, the one and only time I heard it was about twenty years ago. Perhaps I should have another go

The new album is fucking atrocious I thought perhaps that quietus review they'd decided to just destroy Gillespie. There's been enough flags that he's a bit of a cunt in recent years, but despite the assassination of the record by them I was still hopeful it'd be worthwhile. They're review is spot on. Hearing Gillespie try to do a Springsteeneque story-tune, then there's another when he must assume he's Bob Dylan in 64. Lyrically embarrassing, his vocal delivery has never been his strong point but fucking hell, it's so poor. Still, I'll always love the Scream, they've given me 3 of my all-time favourite record. Having heard this new one twice I'll never bother to listen again. Its easily the worst thing they've ever made... and they've had some stinkers. XTRMNTR Screamadelica Vanishing Point Evil Heat Echo Dek (very underrated) More Light Primal Scream Sonic Flower Groove Beautiful Feature Chaosmosis Give Out But Don't Give Up Riot City Blues Come Ahead Would have to revisit chaosmosis to rank it properly tbh I've a feeling if I listened now it'd be worse than I remember.

I honestly don’t even remember one song off chaosmosis.
I would rank more light 3rd, marginally ahead of vanishing point, but that’s pretty much how I’d rank them as well. (Except for give out etc…it’s not *that* bad.)

The quietus review terrified me as it read like the only none paid review.
I’m on my third listen and these are really sad times for the scream. Is the band just Bobbie G and Andrew Innes as a session man now? Fuck.
Dreadful times. What happened to the cool chick at least who OWNED the bass guitar?
Trying desperately to like the album, and I can’t - melancholy man must be one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard. Agree with Karl, this could easily be their worst ever album.
Still going to see them in Liverpool next April, it’s £45 quid a ticket and I’ll be seeing Gillespie and fuck knows who in a student guild hall.
Screamadelica Xtrmntr Evil Heat Vanishing Point More light Beautiful future Riot city blues Primal scream Chaosmosis Give out but don’t give up Sonic flower groove Come ahead
Ps. I’d rank the Memphis album above riot city blues.

melancholy man was the one that stuck out for me too. bobby sounds like he is dying.
i actually really like the first two songs on this new album but it goes downhill very quickly.

There's no way you people didn't like Deep Dark Waters... seriously one of their best singles to date. It's sort of new-generation Slip Inside this House!!

This is the frustrating thing. There's a handful of really good tunes on there. Unfortunately there's also a handful of their worst ever songs. I'm finding it hard to judge at the moment really. Proper mixed bag.
